You're right: that last comment was hilarious.
For the record, my cut off date for prepared foods has always been 1 week as long as it was put directly in the fridge instead of sitting on the counter for hours on end. I've never ever gotten sick from eating it, though I probably wouldn't feed week-old food to children.

That's a good rule. A friend of ours also pointed out that if you heat anything over a high heat for 30 minutes you can kill all bacteria in it (as well as remove all nutrition) so you know...if you are starving to death and don't mind eating charcoal... :P

I stick to the 3 day rule, but stretch it on occasion, and much like you, it depends on how quickly it went into the fridge too.
