Was going to do a rewatch on the weekend, but ended up not... was going to do it tonight instead, but only got 5.5 hours sleep and so am too tired. Perhaps tomorrow!

Jensen & Family

Man, that pic Jensen posted of his family is the cutest! Awww...

Sherlock

So, Sherlock has started back up again - and for those who also watch it, and also follow me here, you might be like - Yo, where be your Quick Reactions? And to that, my answer is...

I haven't been in the mood to watch the show for some reason. I mean, even when publicity started rolling out, I wasn't curious enough to click on any links or anything. And I can't precisely say why, just that... well, no one believes me that I lose interest in things, because of how entrenched I am in continuing to watch Supernatural regardless of plotlines... but yeah, this is me losing interest, I guess.

I might watch it eventually... maybe when it comes out on Netflix and I don't have to pirate it? We'll see. I've enjoyed the few gifs on Tumblr that I've seen.

That being said, I also hear tell that the fandom is imploding in on itself, so maybe it's just as well that my attention is elsewhere and refuses to get enthusiastic about the show.

Check Please!

Ngozi is going to be at Emerald City Comic-Con this year, so I am jazzed - since I will also be there. It's in only two months! Oh man...

What else what else....

Fics

Currently slow going on the next installment of the demented'verse. I had a fairly good routine of working on it at least once per week, but that got broken in early december and I haven't gotten back into the swing of it yet. Kinda sucks, because I wanted to start posting it in the fall - but I want to make sure I'm on track not to leave people hanging with a WIP too long, you know? So, yes. Pretty sure this is going to be the final installment of the 'verse - so, I also want to make it fairly good? I mean, I might not manage it - it might suck. It could be that the 'verse has been declining in quality with each installment since the first, and this will be like a final nail in the coffin rather than a spectacular grand finale fireworks show. Either way, I'll be wrapping things up.

Still want to do a Supernatural-set sequel to Men of Legend. But that'll have to wait until after I finish off the demented'verse.

Haven't decided on possible sequels, one-shots, for Unfortunate Brother or I Imagine the Gods... but time will tell, I suppose. I have vague notions... but then I also have vague notions about expanding The Time Traveler into a full-length proper fic, and it didn't even get that warm of a reception.

Rogue One

I hear Rogue One is good, but I really hate tragedies, so I haven't seen it. "Why are you watching Supernatural?!!??" Someone screams into the abyss. "I don't know!! It just happened!" the abyss screams back.

I really hate tragedies

For what it's worth, I didn't cry at the end of Rogue 1.

I sobbed my eyes out at the end of Fantastical Beasts and Where to Find Them, and nobody died...

And I am resisting the blatantly clear story-telling that telegraphs in capital letters that Supernatural is a tragedy with every fiber of my soul...

Haha, same.

Well, that's good to know about Rogue One. Everyone else is like "I'm a sobbing mess!" but then you never know what's real and what's fandom hyperbole.

Man, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was another movie I wanted to see, but just haven't... I have just not been in the mood for drama in any form, it seems. :P

I also want to go see Hidden Figures, which might win out over all those other ones. We'll see we'll see. I think it's also just hard to find time to go to the movies... you always have to dedicate a whole evening to it. (not to mention $20).

The thing you need to know about Rogue One, is that yes, there's tragedy, but more than that, it's about hope. It's about people holding on through the most dire of circumstances on the slim chance that there might be hope for the future.

The characters involved die in the hope of achieving a better future for the world around them, and because it leads right into the three original Star Wars movies, we know that said hope proves true, and that they will have been successful in their mission.

It's painful, but the ending is most of all positive, which I feel, now more than ever is essential.

Yes, I hear it has a fantastic message. And I'm not saying it's a tragedy meaning like... tragedy/sadness. I mean it's a tragedy in the definition of "everybody dies"... like, I even recognize that it's not even a tragedy in the Shakespeare sense, because Shakespeare's tragedies were all about heroes being their own undoing, and that doesn't apply here.

I just... don't want to see people die? Like, even if they save the day (which we know they do), it still sucks.

Don't get me wrong, I'll see the film EVENTUALLY and I'll probably really like it... but right now, I'm just... blah, you know?

And maybe the case is that I'm "blah" because the world is horrible and I could use hope, and if I saw the film I'd feel better about everything... but that's the whole catch-22 of telling the depressed person to go outside and get more exercise in order to help their depression...it'd be easier to do that if they weren't depressed. :P

But yeah, I'll definitely see it eventually. And I'm glad it's a really good movie with a really great message for our troubled times.

I've seen someone aptly described rogue 1 as "a war movie, but not a star war movie". The last half hour or so really reminded me of the first half hour of saving private ryane.

Oh man, I "watched" the first half hour of Saving Private Ryan by staring into the black beneath the screen and humming little tunes to myself.

I would definitely hold out for Sherlock on Netflix, if you decide you want to watch it. Apparently our virgin American ears can't take certain words and therefore you get some odd bleeps. When I found out what was bleeped all I could think was "Oh come ON!" because they are really nothing worth bleeping.

Episode 1 was meh, IMHO, episode 2 is much better, but I don't think it's that great in either case.

Oh man, it that on the American BBC? Usually I pirate it from BBCOne in the UK. But yeah, I think I might hold out until it appears on Netflix.

I've seen a few gifs and a fanvid. It certainly seems dramatic... but yeah, can't tell how much I'd care for the storyline.

Actually it's on PBS, which I guess has to be more cautious about offending people.

Ah, that probably explains it then. There are probably stricter rules for a public broadcaster.

I saw that picture that Jensen posted with his twins while I was in the waiting room to meet my newborn niece for the first time. :) It filled me with joy.

You know, I have felt kind of the same way about Sherlock! I'm a season behind as well. I think I *could* get back into it, I just haven't really had the motivation, which is weird because in seasons 1 and 2 I couldn't wait to watch. What happened to make the fandom implode? That's always a bummer. Hopefully people will be kind.

I am so glad that you've stuck with Supernatural, in spite of the plot lines and the inevitable tragedy. :) I'm sticking with it too, season 13 and beyond.

I thought the character development in Rogue One was a little spotty and uneven, but the tragedy of it is very redemptive (as others have said upthread), and I did enjoy that a lot more than I thought I would. I support your avoidance of tragedies on principle, though. The older I get, the more I think, I don't really need to put myself through a cancer movie/war movie/anything where a child dies. Those are real and devastating experiences that I feel empathy for in reality...but I don't get any catharsis or emotional payoff out of watching them unfold in fiction.

Cool about your niece! I'm going to have a new niece next week! Babies everywhere!

Yeah, I loved the previous seasons of Sherlock. But *shrug*, I mean, it doesn't help that AGAIN, I know enough about Sherlock canon to know that S4 contains a death... so, maybe I'm avoiding it for that reason? If I am, it's subconscious. I'm sure I'll watch it eventually though, I really like watching Martin Freeman act. (That being said, as much as I like Martin Freeman, I couldn't bring myself to watch the last Hobbit movie either... again, tragedy).

I figure I've come this far with SPN, might as well see it through to the end. ;)

Yes, I've been thinking about this a lot recently. Because when I was a teen, I DID read and watch a fair number of tragedies... I mean, my two favourite books from that era are tragedies or tragedy-esque, and they're still my favourite books... but would I pick them off the shelf today knowing their endings? I'm not sure I would.

And I think it comes down to what you say... when we're young, if we're lucky, we don't have any experience with real-life pain and tragedy, so reading about it and exploring the feelings it conjures in fiction is fascinating and enthralling for us... as we get older, and our world expands, and (hopefully) our empathy expands too... we don't need to reach into fiction to find tragedy, and more than that, the tragedies we read about are WORSE than fiction, because they are real. Whether they happen in our immediate families, our communities, our countries, or halfway around the world, we're exposed almost against our will to countless tragedies... to the point where when we want to lose ourselves in a fictional world, it's the lure of what we CAN'T get in our lives that entices us...adventure, wit, romance, hope, uplifting things... those are the sorts of things I gravitate towards.

Will dystopian fiction be as popular now that we're living in one? I doubt it. But I could be wrong.

Anyway, yeah, thoughts and junk.
