It's still the 6th where I am!
So, today's ficlet is about the boys and Charlie playing D&D, because I had to vent my frustration about my dice... which ONCE AGIAN chose a daily-prompt prompt for like the billionth day in a row.
Today's prompt is: A Change of Plans.
For those of you who have never played D&D, there are a variety of common superstitions surrounding dice and luck for most players... the biggest ones of which is that 1)dice can be unlucky, and 2)other people touching your dice can make them unlucky.
The other thing that might be important to know is that I essentially wrote this in 10 minutes because it's nearly midnight and I've had a long day. I swear to god these fics will get better, but right now I'm still just working on the discipline of writing SOMETHING every day.
Storming the Castle
Words: 466
“Change of plans, guys,” Charlie declared. “We cannot storm the castle tonight!”
“What?!” Sam asked, as he let Charlie into the Bunker.
“What the hell do you mean we’re not storming the castle?!” Dean yelled up from down the stairs, where he had already set up the table for their session. “I drove for 24 hours back from New York just so that I could storm the castle!”
“Yeah, well, my twelve-sided die has been giving me nothing but fours all week,” Charlie declared as she made her way down the stairs. “If we go in with bad dice, we’re going to die.”
“What, just because you’re getting bad rolls?!” Dean argued. “Sam and I can pick up the slack, we rolled fine last time.”
“Please,” Charlie said sarcastically. “We all know that you rely on my characters extra two levels to pull us through every fight, like humans rely on oxygen to live.”
“Yeah, well maybe if our DM went a little easier on us-”
“It’s not fun, if it’s not a challenge,” Charlie sing-songed back to him.
“So, what, we just stop playing because you had a couple of bad rolls?” Sam asked, puzzled.
“I’m just saying, maybe we should put off storming the castle and level you guys up with some random encounters in the woods first-“
“Sounds kinky,” Dean smirked.
Charlie just raised her eyebrows.
“Can’t you just use my dice or something?” Dean sighed.
“First rule of D&D, Dean, never let anyone touch your dice – I could get my jinx all over them.”
“Wait,” Sam said. “Is this... are you cursed? Because we know how to lift curses.”
“Huh...” Charlie said. “I mean, I’m pretty sure it’s just superstition, but... “
“I’m calling Cas to do a consult,” Dean muttered, already moving to where he had left his phone. “There’s no way I’m not storming a castle tonight.”
“You should ask him if he wants in,” Sam suggested. “That way if Charlie rolls bad, we’ll have a fourth as backup.”
“Ooo, I can write him up a character,” Charlie smiled. “What do you think he’d like?! Maybe a wizard? Or perhaps an elf?”
“Nah, make him a barbarian,” Sam smiled. “The guy’s got a lot of pent-up anger about us not treating him like the mighty warrior that he is.”
“Something showy,” Dean sighed, dialing Cas’ number. “He likes showy.”
“Got it,” Charlie smiled. “You know that we’ll still have to do a few random encounters to level him up a bit though, right?”
“Yes, fine,” Dean said, as he waited for the call to connect. “We’ll change the plan slightly, but we are storming that castle tonight if it’s the last thing I d- No, Cas, not an actual castle..."
And then they all played D&D and lived happily ever after.
The End.
So, I really hope that my twelve-sided die starts giving me something other than fours! Not that I don't like daily-prompt, but it's infinitely harder to come up with ficlets from really vague prompts than it is to use your guys' more detailed prompts or something from the 30 day prompt list.
3 minutes until midnight! Must post!

Date: 2014-06-08 03:41 am (UTC)Today I was able to use one of the prompts from your 30 day prompt list! It's Captain America, though... I'm not sure you're in that fandom.
Still though, it's the first time I've written something from that list so far, so that's exciting! (It's also the longest fic that I've written so far.)

Date: 2014-06-09 01:46 am (UTC)I'll be doing a few more Captain America fics, because that's going to be my "summer fandom" this year - but it's a safe bet to say that when I do write SPN fics this month, they'll all probably feature lighthearted Dean. ;)

Date: 2014-06-09 02:02 am (UTC)And yes, as long as you have fun writing the fics, that really is the important thing. When you stop having fun or enjoying it, that is the time to stop.

Date: 2014-06-09 02:08 am (UTC)I recommend the Captain America movies. I think you'll really like them. The second is much stronger than the first, but you need the first for background info. I still haven't seen all the Thor movies or Ironman movies... but I'm hoping to catch up on those this summer too.
We'll see if I get around to it. I still have a whole season of another show that I downloaded last summer that I still haven't gotten to. It really takes me forever to watch anything!

Date: 2014-06-09 02:24 am (UTC)I understand that it takes forever to watch anything. What with work and watching the summer shows that are on, and there are a number of them, sometimes it is hard to take to the time out to watch something else. I still have yet to watch any of the Sherlock episodes that are sitting on my computer anxiously waiting my viewing. Someday I will get to those. I think it's harder for me to watch a show that I have to watch on my computer, because when I watch TV I also work on my computer, so if I have to watch a show on my computer, then I can't work as well, and that proves difficult.

Date: 2014-06-09 02:32 am (UTC)Everything else though, I'll download and then think "well, I can watch that whenever" - and because I can watch it "whenever" it's extremely low on my priority of "things to do", to the point where it just doesn't get done. :P
