For the last two days I've been keeping a secret - and I hope those friends who are in Vancouver forgive me, but...

Supernatural held an "overstocked" wardrobe liquidation sale today. Studios do these types of sales a lot after shows/movies wrap (for the season or completely)... usually, I never hear about them and so I miss them. This year, I happened to find out that Supernatural was doing a wardrobe sale.

I think anyone who reads this journal would realize that there was no way I would be missing a SPN wardrobe sale!

Before you get too excited - there weren't many Sam and Dean clothes for sale. I'm guessing it's because the boys aren't going to be naked in S9 (disappointing, I know). That being said, I did manage to get some very cool things...

Like shoes!
SPNsale 001SPNsale 002

And this weird Asian inspired silk robe... because, hey, why not.
SPNsale 003edit
SPNsale 004

Now, unsurprisingly given the show, a lot of the clothes were men's clothes - and even though they didn't belong to Sam and Dean, I couldn't resist stocking up on men's shirts. Men's shirts should really be a staple of any woman's wardrobe, I think.
SPNsale 006
Now, although I said there were no Sam and Dean clothes, I do think that the bottom two shirts in the above picture resemble these shirts of Dean's. I picked out the green plaid and the grey striped shirt because I thought they looked like Sam's shirts, but I checked my files when I got home and they're not. I might give away the grey shirt, because I look horrible in grey - but the green plaid is still a good buy, in my opinion. The dark plaid at the top is really nice quality. I think it's my favourite of the men's shirts that I bought today.

They DID have women's clothing there, but sadly it was all "actress size" which means that the vast majority of it was all S or XS or basically size 0 to 6... unfortunately, I'm a size 8-10 only if I suck in my gut and wear a sports bra... so there wasn't really many options for me. In retrospect, I really should have brought my actress-sized sister. I was obviously distracted by the possibility of men's clothes, that I didn't even think that there might be stuff she'd like there too. That being said, I did manage to get a few pieces of women's clothing:
SPNsale 010
I really like the wing shirt, given where I bought it. The sleep pants are a little small on me, but who really cares when it comes to sleep pants. The bra fits fantastically and is really sexy. It's a shame I don't date.
SPNsale 012
Damn it! Who killed an adorably small angel right beside me?! :P

Now, where I REALLY scored was in the wearable memorabilia...
SPNsale 008
Clockwise starting at the top black shirt....
Midwestern Brewing Company polo - Party On Garth (S7)
Hell Hazers T-shirt - Hollywood Babylon (S2)
Truman Bombers polo and athletic jacket - After School Special (S4)
Gamecocks long-sleeved T-shirt - Yellow Fever (S4)
Hell Hazers II The Reckoning T-shirt - Hollywood Babylon (S2)
Cooper Carnival - Everybody Loves a Clown (S2)
Sandover Tech Support polo - It's a Terrible Life (S4)

All in all, you do NOT want to know how much money I spent on men's clothing today. :P

Oh, I should say that this clothing sale was at the studio...I was so focused on buying clothes (and navigating the crowds - because my goodness, there were a lot of people. Also, most of them were Eastern European for some reason)... anyway, I was so focused on clothes that I didn't even realize until after I was finished that I had been shopping next to the Men of Letters bunker the whole time. :P I didn't get to see the inside of the set, just the outside plywood, but still - pretty cool! I could see one of the art-deco doors.

There was also another small set that looked pretty spooky. I didn't really recognize it from anything in particular, so it might be something still to come, or maybe I just have a bad memory for sets.

They were also selling fabric remnants for really cheap (I bought some fabric too, because it was a deal) and I could tell from the other remnants in the bin that they made the clown costumes in Plucky Pennywhistle's (S7) themselves as well as the animal mascot suit that the guy Dean chased down wore.

There was also a "breakdown" section of clothes that were really cheap, but that's because "breakdown" refers to clothes that have been deliberately ruined. So, you have a lot of clothes with blood-splatter, bullet holes, and glued on dirt - and really not anything usable. I did find a copy of Sam's Corduroy Jacket in that section. It had its lining completely slashed (I'm not sure how the hell that happened or if it served some kind of purpose), but I didn't get it... I'm still conflicted about that decision, but the lining was really ripped up and even if I took the time to mend it, I'm not sure I have much use for a large men's jacket... anyway, what's done is done, it may turn into a regret, but thems the breaks.

There were also a lot of Bobby's clothes in the breakdown section. :(

So yeah, a fun day! It'd be pretty crushing though, if I had gone with the intent of buying women's clothes that actually fit me. I guess that's my tip.. Set wardrobe sales: Good for Men's clothes, Shoes, and Petite Women. I know one person who once scored big on the wardrobe sale of that Wayans Bros' movie "White Girls" because the women's clothes were all sized to fit men. Haha, so yeah, I think if I were shopping for practical clothes for myself, I'd have to find a show/movie about crossdressers. :P

Now, only a couple of hours left until Supernatural airs on the east coast... yay!

Wow! Score!!!! I thought of you when I heard about the sale. Lucky you!!!

Are those Sam's shoes from the early seasons on the right? They look really similar.

Nice robe! *tries to rack brain remembering which ep it's from*

I'll take the grey shirt if you don't want it! Don't care if it fits me or not just that it was used for SPN! *squees* :D

You really got a lot of stuff. I'm green with envy. Would've loved to have been there myself, but alas, still sick a bit and despite what people think, Vancouver isn't exactly in my backyard. *le sigh*

Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't mentioning that I knew about the sale, because I didn't want to advertise it further and get more competition! As it is, it was quite a bit of a madhouse.

They aren't Sam's shoes, because they're women's shoes. I'm not sure if anyone important wore them - but they're pretty snazzy. The ones on the right are actually a bit big for me, but I'm thinking that they'll be fine if I just wear them with thick socks.

I'm thinking the rob might be from that episode.... The Curious Case of Dean Winchester? They found that guy in a Chinese motel... that's the only thing I could think of. They actually had a number of Chinese inspired robes, which was weird, I didn't really recognize any of them, so I'm wondering if maybe they were bought but never used.

Consider the grey shirt yours! First come, first serve on that one. ;)

Yeah, I'm hoping that people in the area don't hate me too much for keeping it to myself. I figure my fellow Vancouver fans might be more pissed off than those of you who would have to drive for 2+ hours and have a passport. :P

From: [identity profile] raloria.livejournal.com
I only found out about the sale thanks to Twitter a couple of days ago, so I thought they kept it pretty quiet. But it sounds like you had plenty of competition. I only know of one other fan [livejournal.com profile] naficeh who said she was there.

Well they look close enough to be Sam's. *g* Work with me here!

Just checked out that ep for the robe, but that's not it. The gals wore black see-thru robes. Darn! The search continues! :P

Yay!!! Thank you! You can give it to me in August. Hopefully we'll both remember about it by then.

Oh, and I'm doubly envious that you were actually inside the studio! OMG What I wouldn't give to actually see that place on the inside. All the sets, equipment, rigging and stuff! *sigh* Filmmaking geek's dream, you know?

Date: 2013-05-01 10:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
I kept watching twitter hoping that no one high-profile would tweet about it, because I didn't want more fangirl competition. :P I didn't see Naficeh, but there were a lot of people there and I was pretty focused on the clothes!

The robe might have been bought but never used, don't forget! :P

I'm sure I'll remember to give it to you in August. I have a really small closet and will probably be thankful to get the space back. ;)

I was so focused on the clothes that where I was didn't even occur to me really until they rang my purchases through. It was only then that I realized that the HUGE pile of plywood in the corner was the BUNKER. Haha... they had the studio pretty much completely empty of equipment and rigging though. There were just the two sets and maybe a wall or two of a set that had been broken down already... other than that, it was just racks and racks of clothes. Still, pretty dang cool.

That sounds so awesome. I would ahve just bought a bajillion shirts. And nice underwear apparently. :P

What sizing do you use in Canada? Is is the same as the US system?

Date: 2013-05-01 10:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
Yeah, I don't want to admit to how much money I spent. By the end, I mainly just left to save me from myself. :P

We use the same as the US. There were a couple of things there with European sizing listed, but for the life of me I can't remember how European sizing works anymore. It's been 10 years since I lived there.

franztastisch: (spn)
From: [personal profile] franztastisch
Haha I can imagine. :P

Oh man, European sizes confuse me. H&M use it a lot and I hate it. US to UK sizing is easy though. You just add 4. So US size 0 is UK size 4 etc. So yeah... I'd've been one of those "actress size" women. I totally could have made a killing. :P What was the average price? Was it cheaper than regualr shopping?

(I don't know why I'm interested. I hate shopping..)

Date: 2013-05-01 10:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
Yeah, you could have made a killing. I feel kind of bad for not bringing my sister now, especially since I don't think she had work today. :P Sigh. Maybe I just won't tell her about it.

The most expensive things I bought were $15, so yeah, MUCH cheaper than regular shopping, to an insane degree...which is why these things are always a madhouse when they happen. It's not people interested in the show that you have to worry about, it's people interested in getting good quality clothes for very very cheap.

TOTALLY AWESOME!!!

So would these be clothes that either were worn or intended to be worn but not used after all by a guest/extra/whatever? I'm trying to think if any actress in a brief scene wore the brown robe. And the red lingerie reminds me of the outfit the devil dancing girl wore in that dream of Dean's in season 5.

Date: 2013-05-01 10:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
The robe might be a men's robe. I honestly couldn't tell.

But yeah, they'd be clothes that were under-used and/or never worn. Like, they had swimsuits - how often do people on SPN wear swim-suits?

I actually DID find a shirt of Sam's that he wore in the beginning of 99 Problems in S5, but I didn't get it because I was not a fan of that shirt! (and apparently neither was Sam, since they were selling a few copies of it.) So yeah, under-used or never-used.

The swim suits would be from 7x02 when we see a bunch of gals washing a vehicle during the "Black Water" montage near the beginning of the ep. ;)

YOU GOT TO STAND ON HALLOWED GROUND OMG.

I hope of course you took notes on everything so it can be catalogued! Anyway looks like you were a shopping machine!

From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
I KNOW! Haha, it was kind of a madhouse for taking notes. I did note the abundance of Windriver Brand in the men's section, but other than that, I was kind of overstimulated!

Put me back in that room with my laptop, no crowd, and all the time in the world and I would have been thrilled though! As it was, I was too busy on trying to find things that I recognized. :P

But yeah, it really didn't even hit me until I was leaving that I was ON SET. I mean, GEEZ. Not that I could have poked around at all, because they had everything secured... but I did poke my head into the small spooky set while I pretended to look at men's ties... so that was fun. ;)

Only you would have been able to look at a table of plaid shirts and picked out the ones Sam and Dean had worn. Raises a glass in your direction. You got RED GYM CLOTHES. The Sandover shirt is a score and the wing t-shirt is just cool all 'round. Nicely done. 8-)

Date: 2013-05-01 11:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
Haha, a table... try FOUR RACKS OF PLAID SHIRTS!

I actually did find a plaid shirt that Sam wore only once - for the opening scene of "99 Problems" back in S5 (and yes, I recognized it on sight), but I didn't buy it because I didn't like it...maybe that makes me a bad fangirl? But seriously, at that point I already had a garbage bag stuffed to the brim. :P

I'm pretty damn happy with what I decided to buy though... and I'm also happy that I left before I spent even more money. ;)

ETA: http://hells-half-acre.livejournal.com/217837.html - looking at this entry now, it also occurs to me that I may have seen this shirt in the breakdown section too, with the bullet wound in the shoulder. Damn. That means that Jared actually wore that one... maybe I AM a bad fangirl. :P

Also wow the underwear is amazing and I am also slightly jealous of that. And the robe.

Anyways that is so cool, it's literally never occurred to me that shows would do stuff like that, much less let the public attend.

Thanks! Yeah, I love men's shirts. They were the majority of my wardrobe back in high school.

It's really rare for the public to find out about the sales - I mean, they're open to anyone that arrives, but you have to KNOW about them, and it's not like they advertise in the paper. I was tipped off by a friend for this one.

All my treasures though, and I find out that one of the VFX guys actually found Sam's Whippet shirt in the heap...and now I'm super super jealous of him and kicking myself for not going through the racks and racks of dark t-shirts more closely. :P

:) Awesome! Kind of jealous! The set beside the Man of Letters set is kind of roundish? It may have changed, but its generally a long standing set that they adjust depending on what they need. It's been Crowley's torture chamber, sewers, hell (it was hugely expanded, they may have torn the additional hallways down now). It generally plays dungeons and dark stoned interiors, which there is a surprising lot of in spn.

Ah yes, that's the one! And now that you mention it, it DID look rather hellish :P

I guess I should have told you about the sale - I'm too selfish sometimes. Still, unless you were looking to collect show memorabilia, it was pretty useless in terms of practical clothes. Except maybe shoes. That being said, I might end up with an extra shirt if you DID happen to want show memorabilia. ;)

Yeah, I spent WAY more money than I should have.

I found out through a friend who found out through a friend... and then I selfishly kept it to myself and feel slightly like a bad person for doing so. But yeah, unfortunately I don't have a reliable source to point you towards... I do know that a lot of the crew were tweeting about it and at least a few fans found out about it via twitter (I, however, was not one of them.)

I also feel bad for not spending MORE time and money though, as Ryan Curtis from the VFX department made off with Sam's iconic whippet shirt. I am SO jealous it's slightly unbelievable.

Well good timing on finding out and getting some fun pieces.
AWW Sam's whippet shirt?! THAT would have a cool item to have!
I have Anna Milton's green jacket, which seems to be impossible to find. Not screen worn, but at least it's the jacket. They even used the same one in an earlier episode. Recycle! lol.

Cool! Yeah, maybe I should have spent more time going through everything - but those sales are so HUGE, and my arms were killing me. Plus, I ended up with a bag full of stuff even without going through each rack shirt by shirt... so, I think I just have to take a deep breath and be happy with what I got.

But yeah, I'm disappointed that I missed out on a chance to get the Whippet shirt. Ah well, too late now! I know the leftover clothes are going to charity, but I don't know if it's "local thrift store charity" or "get's trucked away" charity. :P

Yeah, it was one of the first things I found and I nearly died on the spot!

Ever since I got home, I've been focusing on all the shirts that got away (one of the VFX crew found Sam's whippet shirt from S1)... but damn, I should be happy about what I managed to get. :)

I saw that. I'm glad it went to a guy who worked on the show. But on the other hand, imagine how much money they could have raised for charity for that whippet tee! They missed an opportunity there.

But yeah, I'd be pleased if I were you. That's a great haul!

Date: 2013-05-02 10:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
Yeah, I gotta admit, part of me is wondering how much I could get if I auctioned one of the shirts... not that I'm going to do that, of course, but...yeah...

Plus, I spent a LOT of money as it is, that's the other factor to consider...and it's true, the clothes were really cheap, but around the umpteenth time you say "what's five/ten/fifteen more dollars when I'm already spending so much?" you start to realize that the "just one more" really starts to add up.

Hopefully they have another sale eventually, and hopefully I hear about it - even if I'm not living in Vancouver anymore when they do, I will drop everything and fly back. :P
