Dean's Second Leather Jacket

After Dean’s iconic leather jacket was stolen from the wardrobe department on its way down to LA for a photo-shoot, Dean had to go without for nearly two whole seasons. The show teamed up with a Vancouver leather jacket company and replaced it at the end of S7. Jensen apparently had a hand in the design process as well. The result was this rust-coloured leather jacket that has a LOT of pockets.  It’s really a leather utility jacket, with two breast pockets, and four lower pockets (and that’s just on the outside.) The lower pockets are duel pockets with a section that opens with a flap, and also a section that opens with a slit at the side. In addition to the visible pockets, there are also un unknown number of pockets on the inside of the jacket. The jacket does up with black buttons, but there is a strip of leather that hides the buttonholes from the eye (hiding the buttons if the jacket is fastened.) The flaps on the pockets also do up with buttons and vertical button holes.

APPEARANCES:

The jacket makes its first appearance in There Will Be Blood (7x22). Dean wears it when he and Sam travel to Hoople, North Dakota, in the hopes of finding the alpha vampire. Dean takes it off briefly in order to put it around the shoulders of the young women, Emily, who they find alone in the alpha vampire’s house. Once they leave, Dean wears it for the rest of the episode.

Dean continues to wear the jacket in Survival of the Fittest (7x23). He wears it whenever he is not inside Rufus’ cabin, and therefore, is unfortunately still wearing it when he is sucked into Purgatory at the end of the episode.

Ha, you're back at work on the clothing, I see!

(And it is a darn shame to nice new leather jacket ended up getting wrecked in Purgatory...unless Winchester miracle clothing cleaning and repair services come into place...)

I'm wondering if it's indeed wrecked beyond repair, or if Dean will eventually wear it again and just have it be beat up. It seems a shame to get so little use out of it after they had it custom made.

And yes, I'm hard at work back on the clothing. ;) I'm hoping to have it all uploaded by Dec. 14, but we'll see.

This was a practical jacket to have on for purgatory. It got pretty dirty there. I think maybe Dean tossed it once he got back to earth. I liked the jacket a lot.

I'm wondering if it's still wearable. I mean, it got pretty beat up - but Dean's other leather jacket was fairly beat-up too.

Still, we've yet to see it, so maybe he did in fact toss it. Seems a shame after all the trouble they went through to get it custom made. :P

Agreed. I miss the length of his first leather jacket, as I'm always a fan of things that end at the thigh rather than the hip - but I loved how this one sat across the shoulders. :)

I've actually noticed that as the series progresses, their clothes get just a little more tailored to them. :P

I agree, Dean drowned in his old coat. I still liked the length though. I also kind of liked the fact that he drowned in it from a character standpoint, because it was a hand-me-down from his father, so I thought it was fitting (haha) that it didn't fit.

Haha, exactly! I haven't written it off yet. I'm still expecting Dean to wear it again eventually. ;)
