How do you end a novel that's completely lost it's point or perhaps never had one?

Seriously, this thing need to be completely revamped, but I at least want to write the final sentence on the first draft so that I can claim that I at least have a first draft done.

I also want to take a good two or three months where I don't have to look at the stupid thing.

Ugh...sorry folks, really hating on my own work right now.

I am a firm believer in hating one's writing as part of the process. The most painful part, but possibly a necessary one. I think sometimes when you hate something and you just want to get it OVER WITH and you're just pounding out the final chapters, that's when your subconscious gets to sneak in a lot of stuff into the writing. And then, when a little time has passed and you look at it with new eyes, then you notice themes or resolutions lurking in the background that you never consciously put there...and that's the stuff you can expand to make the story the best version of itself.

Which is a very long way of saying Rah! Rah! Rah! Go you!

ETA: I didn't sign up to be a reader on your novel project because I doubted my ability to remember what was going on chapter to chapter without the handy shortcuts that are part and parcel of fic, but I would really like one day to get a peek at it.

Well, I'm definitely very good at that part of the process!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm definitely looking forward to the part where a little time has passed and I'm able to look at it again with new eyes.

Probably wise of you. I've made everybody wait nearly 3 months now for the last installment because my summer vacation/lack of any idea how to wrap this thing up got in the way. If you were still interested (even with the rave review I just gave it), I could send the "completed" first draft to you once I'm done.

I've been reading it and the story was flowing wonderfully. You were giving information as needed with each of the characters you developed. They were real and emotional and driving for each one of them. I do think that many times when you are in the midst of writing you do tend to hate what you've written.

I thought you had the plot and the final chapter thought out. It's good, keep doing what you were doing and the story will work it self out. Maybe you are trying to fit it in to a specific number of chapters and maybe you might need more than you were planning.

Looking forward to read more (chin up! you are doing fine).

Well, thanks for being so kind about it! I think it's falling apart a little at the end. I just don't know how to end it on a satisfying note, I guess.

Anyway, I should have the last bit out to you by next week at the latest - even if the last sentence is ridiculous.

I have been honest all along if the last line is bad I will let you know and you have the right to change it too!

Don't worry about it too much - Like I told you - you have been doing a great job.

I know! Oh man...you don't understand, I like, literally, just have to figure out my last sentence. It's frustrating.

Maybe I should send out what I have and then ask people what information they think wasn't wrapped up...and then send out an "epilogue part 2" or something. :P
