I don't normally post about the porny delicious side of fic, mainly because I don't write it, and secondly because my mum reads this journal.

So, I will kindly ask my mother not to click on the cut text, even though she probably will anyway...but at least this way I can pretend that she didn't...

The other day, I read an awesome modern AU merthur story (Merlin fandom, for those who don't know). It's a cross-dressing fic called Wild and Untamed Thing by [livejournal.com profile] magnolia822 (who also, as it happens, writes fantastic threesome fics - which is another kink of mine.) At first I was reluctant to click on it, because it's a Rocky Horror themed fic, which rang alarm bells for me that it'd make the same mistake as all the other cross-dressing fics out there. I was VERY happily mistaken. My only regret about the fic is that it wasn't longer - I'd have happily stayed in that 'verse for a much longer time.

So, what made this fic great? I'll tell you, but first, let me tell you why I don't like 99% of the cross-dressing fics out there...

I have a huge cross-dressing kink. And here's what people don't seem to understand about my cross-dressing kink: I am not attracted to men who can pass as women. If I wanted to date a woman, I would date a woman. I mean, bravo if a dude CAN pass as a woman, but that's just not what I personally am interested in. I don't like breasts, I like shoulders and firm chests. I like slim waists and nicely shaped man parts. I like men. I also happen to like men even more if those men are wearing skirts and/or heels.

I'm not sure when I developed this kink, but I know I became aware of it when I first went to Europe back in 2000. It was our second day in Vienna, and we were on the subway heading towards the Prater. It also happened to be the end of the Love Parade...which, takes place in Germany, but for some reason the Austrians had either done something similar, or were just happy that there was a Love Parade somewhere...because while we were sitting on the subway, a group of 20-something men entered our subway car who were coming from some Love Parade themed event...and one of them was wearing a skirt.

It was leather and went down to his ankles, but it had a slit up the side that went all the way up to his thigh (sort of like this one, but longer)...and if that was my introduction to Europe, it was a damn fine one, because I was immediately in lust. He was absolutely gorgeous. That boy could pull off a shirt. And that's what he was - a boy in a skirt. (And although kilts are lovely, they don't fulfill this kink of mine like other skirts do). Besides the skirt, he was just wearing a t-shirt. He still had a boy's haircut. He still had boy mannerism. He was gorgeous.

So, what I don't like about 99% of cross-dressing fics out there: They aren't about boys in skirts. They are about boys pretending to be girls. And that might be other people's kinks, but it's not mine. I like boys who wear women's clothes as comfortably as a woman would wear her boyfriend's t-shirt. When a girl wears a guy's t-shirt, or guy's shoes, or pants, or jacket - she isn't necessarily pretending to be a guy, she's just wearing the clothes that she wants to wear. I wore men's clothing all through high school...(mainly, probably, because of this cross-dressing kink I have), but I wasn't pretending to be a guy. I was a girl and I was wearing the clothes that I felt comfortable in at the time.

Also, 99% of cross-dressing fics out there are about a one-off event where the guy has to pass as a women...or dresses up as a woman as a joke and hot sex surprisingly ensues...or (and lord I hate these ones) dresses up as a woman because it plays into a humiliation kink.

The reason I loved Wild and Untamed Thing was because it wasn't a one-off event. The cross-dressing character is a cross-dresser - not only that, but he's not a drag queen. He's, as Eddie Izzard would say, "an executive transvestite." He wears a skirt, fishnets, and a little bit of make-up, but he's still a guy...he still has short guy hair and a flat chest, and he wears combat boots. True, his partner fetishizes the fishnets, but, as the fic points out, that's just gravy. The love story isn't "I suddenly find you hot because you are dressed like the gender that I typically have sex with and it has caused me to realize you also have a nice personality", the love story is "I really like you as person and think you are gorgeous in addition to that, but my finding you attractive is not actually dependent on the clothes you wear."

And maybe that's another point right there: Cross-dressing as a tool in fic to turn the straight man gay...it just...irks me.

Also, corsets - I hate them in cross-dressing fics. Corsets are not sexy unless they are on a woman, in my opinion anyway. I know people get off on the whole restricting-breathing thing, or corsets as a symbol of repression or whatever...and then having the guy go through that is supposedly either revenge or hot or something...but I LIKE the shape of men as they are naturally, thank you. Same goes for tucking the goods away. Cute guy on the Vienna U-bahn didn't feel the need to hide what he had, and I had absolutely no complaints about the way that leather skirt fit.

Okay, rant over...

So, if anyone has any fic recs for stories similar to Wild and Untamed Thing, let me know.

So, how about you guys? Do you have any really specific kinks that are impossible to find written to your liking?

Interesting! That's probably harder to find than my required-specifications for cross-dressing. :P

IT ISSSSSSSSSS. I can never find it. *weeps*

In addition to gross bodily functions, I like MPreg. BUT ONLY IN A STRAIGHT UP GEN CAPACITY. Also? Only Sam pregnant. Do you know how *impossible* it is to find GEN MPREG?! It's a needle in a haystack. Hence, when I write MPreg it's pure self-indulgence and everything thrown at it. :P

Wow, yeah, that'd be hard to find too.

I like gen bed-sharing. Or just...fics where someone is sleeping while another person is awake. That's way easier to find than gen mpreg, but yeah, most people take it to sexy-times. :P

Jesus. Yours are hard to find too... but you CAN FIND them. But mine? They're nonexistent. Hell, I'm the only author I know who writes them. I agree.... it always go to sexytimes and I just want straight up pain and cramping and helplessness, dammit.

It's interesting when on can pinpoint the moment of realizing that one found a certain thing attractive, isn't it?

There's a movie called My Beautiful Laundrette (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0912376/) which helped crystallize two kinks for me. It's about a young Pakistani man named Omar in London in the mid-80s, and his white skinhead boyfriend, Johnny, played by a very young Daniel Day Lewis. I saw it when I was 18 or 19, and I'd never seen two guys kissing like that, and it was hands-down the hottest thing I'd ever seen onscreen. I'd never heard of 'slash fiction' or anything of the sort, but man, I wanted more. :) I haven't seen the movie in years, but I remember it as being very good, even aside from the steamy bits. It was directed by Stephen Frears, who also directed High Fidelity, Dirty Pretty Things, and The Queen, amongst others.

The thing was, though - everyone else was all excited about Daniel Day Lewis, and he's no question gorgeous, but I was more taken at the time with the actor who played Omar, and more specifically his accent. A few years later I had the biggest crush on a guy in my third-year 20th Century Poetry class, mostly because he had a similar upper-class Anglo-Indian accent. I sweat half the reason I watched Heroes was for Mohinder Suresh and his stupid voiceovers. Sendhil Ramamurthy is a beautiful man, no question, but I don't find him nearly as sexy when he speaks with his natural, slightly Texan-American accent. And of course, not something one can really get in fic at all :(

Have you ever read Headhunter, by Timothy Findley? It's kind of a difficult book (it would have a TON of trigger warnings on it if it were a fic) but also really well-written. One of the characters in it is kind of obsessed with coltish young men in Balenciaga gowns - not done up as girls, just men in frocks.

Yeah, that night in Vienna was when I realized the attraction, and then years later my best friend (who is a guy) put on a skirt for a laugh, and that cemented it, because I did not want to sleep with him until he put on that skirt.

Ooo...I really liked Mohinder Suresh from heroes too. That's really interesting...and yeah a hard thing to find in fic, because 1)there's a shortage of non-white characters, and 2)you can't really put accents in fic :P

I have not read Headhunter. And depending on the trigger warnings it would have if it were fic, I might not be able to read it :P...But yes, coltish young men in Balenciaga gowns sounds lovely. ;)

The funny thing is, after I posted that, it occurred to me that technically Headhunter *is* fanfic. It's a Heart of Darkness AU, with Kurtz and Marlow as psychiatrists in a giant mental institution in Toronto. It really is an amazing book, but it does deal with sexual abuse and exploitation of children, and those parts are hard to read. Still recommended, though.

I would seriously listen to Mohinder Suresh read the phone book, it's sad.

Oh my goodness, it was super awkward. :P Luckily, I kept it all inside.

Oh yeah, I get enough sexual abuse and exploitation of children in my day job, I don't really like reading about it at night too.

I always find it funny how there's this stigma around fanfic, yet there are so many published successful works that are basically just fanfic :P

IKR? Writers play around in other writers' worlds all the time, but when fans do it, somehow it's icky :)

Exactly. It's the same with all those Star Trek books, and whatnot...just because it's 'fanfic' with permission and a seal of approval, doesn't change the fact that it's fanfic!

The other week I was out to dinner with my dad and his wife (both of who have absolutely no clue about fanfiction and the fanfiction community), but somehow the topic came up about writing with other people's characters...and my dad's wife said, "I think that would harder than writing original stories", and I mean, we could argue back and forth on the topic, but that was her opinion and all I could think was 'She just accidentally gave me a huge compliment.'

Wow! My Beautiful Launderette was actually the first time for me as well to realize, holy shit, this gay love thing can be smoking hot!! Seriously, those two? *fans self* Even though what got me most was the tenderness between them. As in love rather than smutty sex...

Yay! I'm glad I'm not the only one :) And yeah, there's something amazing about the love story there, the way they connect even with all those issues of prejudice stacked against them.

Hmmm, I think this fic fits your particular type of crossing dressing kink-it's also my favorite that includes it. Sequins and Padded Bras Notwithstanding Though it is Sam/Dean (granted a Sam and Dean who were raised apart.)

I also hate when stories use crossdressing as a form of humiliation (I don't really like sexual humiliation anyway).

One kink that I like that I don't find in many good fics is hypnosis. It's more the process of hypnosis (induction) that I enjoy reading where the character is brought under and their way of thinking is changed. (Though I don't like to read about people who do this for malicious reasons.) I do not know exactly why I like it. But I do remember an old movie I saw on the classic movie channel when I was young (like before a teenager young) and there was a scene where the bad guy was using a type of mind control to keep the woman from leaving his castle/island, and thinking back I can realize it started there.

Thanks for the link. I will check out the story - I've been known to enjoy wincest if the story is good enough (or the fic is hot enough;) )

I'm not really into sexual humiliation either - and it really gets my goat when they refer to one of my favourite kinks as being humiliating...it's kind of insulting.

Ooo, hypnosis. That's SORT of like my shot-gunning kink...as in, I like pot-smoking stories, but really only the part where one of the characters passes over the joint (or shot-guns a toke) and the other character slowly starts to relax after inhaling...that's the part I like the best. That sort of change of mind-space that occurs. Which is sort of odd, since I've never done drugs myself and have absolutely no personal experience with it whatsoever. :P

But yeah, you don't see too many hypnosis fics out there - especially ones where the person isn't up to evil.

Huh, that's the same way I feel about shotgunning fics too (and I also have never used that or any drug or know how it feels personally), but that feeling the writer describes is what I like about it.

I have a fic about a man in a skirt... some friends were like "Nine in a Tutu" and I was like I CAN TOTALLY SEE THAT. You don't have to be a Doctor Who person to understand the fic, as long as you understand, that Chris Eccleston is MANLIER THAN YOUR MANLY MAN and he would look ABSOLUTELY TO DIE FOR IN LONG BLACK TULLE.

Here is the link. :D

so I think I do get your kink and maybe have even written for it! maybe? y/n?
