Does anyone know anything about rendering?

I'm doing a vid-project (for personal use only)...and when I go to "produce" my vid, it takes forever and gives me a file that is 2+ GB, which doesn't make any sense to me since the source file isn't even that big and what I'm producing is shorter.

I was just wondering if anyone could give me any tips...should I be producing only into .wmv format instead of .avi or mpeg4? What gives?

Any help would be appreciated!

I guess I don't understand, because it's no like it could be higher quality than the original material, right?

Maybe I should do an .wmv - I was wary of using it, because my editing software said it was for "pocket pcs"...right now I'm rendering it as an mpeg4 that's going to end up being 2GBs and take 3 hours. I wanted it as an .avi, but that was even more ridiculous.

But maybe I should try .wmv and see what the quality is like. I just didn't want it to be worse than the original quality. (The original is a .avi file)

Right, but depending on what you're saving it as, it could be bigger in file size than the original.

Some video file types are always going to be bigger than others.

Mkv - big, HQ
Mov - big
Avi - big, still HQ (in most cases)
Mp4 - smaller
Wmv - smaller

Yeah, I'd try the wmv. It shouldn't take too long, depending on how long your video is and what settings you use.

You were right. .wmv makes much more sense in terms of file size. I set it at DVD quality and got something that was 760MB, which makes much more sense for a half-hour movie.

I can see the difference in quality between mpeg4 and wmv, but for the purposes of this project, I don't really have to have top quality picture - and it just makes more sense to conserve space.

Thanks so much for the help! :)
