Check out what I made!

It's for my niece.

For those of you who have never seen Avatar: The Last Airbender (the series, not the horrible film). The symbol on the pillow is the symbol for water-bending (the ability to control water.) My niece really likes the show (because she is awesome and has good taste), and she really likes the characters of Katara and Sokka, who are both from the Water Tribe. Anyway, yeah, I decided to make her this pillow. Hopefully she likes it. And if you don't know A:TLA, you should watch it. It's super awesome.

The design is actually from a pattern that I found online for a blanket. I have already made the blanket for myself, so all I did to make the pillow was use a much smaller crochet hook than I did for the blanket - and that effectively shrunk the design to the size of a pillow (rather than 1/4 of a blanket). Both sides of the pillow look exactly the same. It measures 16''x16''. I stuffed it myself and then crocheted it shut with the fringe.

Although someone else made this particular pattern, I did figure out how to make my own crochet patterns on my computer. So I'm going to make myself a Supernatural pillow next.

ETA: The blanket pattern and a picture of the blanket for those who might want to use the pattern themselves.

That is TOO COOL. I totally want to do a set of all four elements
now.

Yeah, me too! I at least want to make myself a fire-bending pillow, because that's MY favourite element.

The only thing that would make it better is if it was going on a water bed :-p

It kind of amused me to see this post, actually, as my sister and I have been on an epic ATL:A binge recently.

It is an awesome show! I keep waiting for the Legend of Korra to come out....

I was thinking of that too. Sadly, it is not going on a water bed. Do people still even have water beds? :P

Well, I know there are "water beds" that feel and look like normal mattresses and don't spring leaks, so they don't count. I don't think they make honest-to-god waterbeds anymore. I remember that my parents had one when I was a very very little girl, though it bit the dust sometime around the arrival of my sister and was reincarnated as part of the bottom of my uncle's pool.

It kind of makes me sad. If only because that one episode of Are You Being Served isn't nearly as funny unless you've personally encountered one.

Yeah, I feel like there are a good number of jokes from the late 80s/early 90s, that no one will get now. :P

The last time I saw a water bed, this girl that I couldn't stand had one. As I recall, it wasn't great to sleep on. I'm not really surprised that no one has them anymore.

Both the pillow and the blanket are awesome. There's something really nice about the simple graphics and the blue colors of the pillow that make it particularly appealing.

Thanks! Yeah, I actually like the pillow better than the blanket in a lot of ways. I think, as you say, it's the simplicity of it. Also, unlike the blanket, which cost me ~$250 to make, the pillow only cost about $25.

Why must I forever be surrounding myself with super talented people? :( Hahaha it's brilliant! Looks very cuddly and soft. And I have a soft spot for pillows anyway. Every once in a while I'll randomly ask my mum to make me another one. :P

Oh, it's just a pillow...but, thank you. It's kind of tough right now, but it should soften up with time. :)
