Things like THIS make me depressed because they are true.
Which is why I really want my friend to come with me to VanCon this year, so that she can hopefully ask one non-vapid question...even if no one knows how to answer it. (My friend is hella smart, folks, and ponders things like constructions of masculinity.) (Do people say "hella" anymore, or was that an early 2000s thing that only I still do?)
In other related news - and because I had a great time at last year's con - I broke down and just went ahead and bought a silver ticket and even some photo-ops. Because I am crazy like that.
Now I just need to figure out how to make more money...while still quitting my good-paying job (because it may be good-paying, but I'd gladly sacrifice that money not to have my soul sucked out of me. I'm sure Sam and Dean would agree that soul-sucking should be avoided at all costs.)
Anyway, yeah, the game might be crooked, but it's the only game in town, so you might as well smile while you play...

Date: 2011-02-16 03:18 am (UTC)The author missed one of the main things that is fun about the cons: the fans' interaction with each other. I've been to both Creation's Trek and Supernatural cons, and the Trek con was dull and sad because the fans all kept to themselves.
Re: the comment that nothing else was going on at LA Con: I thought they had a Random Acts movie marathon, as well as Loudin Swain playing in town. Maybe the author was only reviewing Creation-provided entertainment, which is fair enough.
Finally, though I'm respectful and polite with the actors, I would totally LOSE IT around Ben Edlund, so I'm fine with him not attending these ;)

Date: 2011-02-16 05:33 am (UTC)But yeah, it's true about the price-gouging, but I agree that the author completely misses the main point of the con...and that's that we all have fun with each other.
I mean, this is the fandom that has WinCon, which is a female-fan-only con where no one from the show is every invited...because the point is to get together and act like complete goofs for the weekend without anyone judging :P
So, yeah, definitely someone who doesn't really understand the nature of the Supernatural fandom. ;)
