So, yesterday I was friended by
nwspaprtaxis , who happens to like my If Clothes Could Talk project. We got to talking about how I should totally make graphs and visual representations for my clothing stats - because I guess we are both dorks. Anyway, I said I would look into it on the weekend...
But um...I love charts and graphs! And I needed something to do last night to cheer myself up...so, I present....
SEASON 1:

SEASON 2:

Sam and Dean don't always wear all the clothes they own, so the following bar graph also keeps track of how many clothes remain "packed" (that is to say, they were used in the previous season and the next season, but not the current season):

And there you have it! Now...just as I was putting those charts in this post - I realized that there's a shirt introduced in S3, that Dean has actually had since high school (ETA: entry here)...so technically, Dean's "packed" shirt count in S1 and S2 is off by one. Sigh. Is it worth redoing all the charts? Probably not. Let's pretend he found the shirt in John's storage unit in Black Rock.

(Sam is terrified by the monster I have become! ....or maybe he is trying to demonstrate why he needs more clothes than Dean.)
I have added them to the Season 1 and Season 2 master lists. I'm still working on posting S3, but I will say that if you think Sam has way more clothes than Dean NOW.....
Enjoy!

Date: 2011-01-29 01:49 am (UTC)Sam has a lot more one-off shirts than Dean...especially in S3. Those are shirts only seen once in the series. That being said, I think besides Sam ditching his unique T's, sweaters and hoodies at the end of S1, Sam and Dean probably have similar ratios of re-used vs. new clothes...it's just that Sam owns way more clothes. He does has a greater wardrobe to cycle through.
Anyway, that would be a pretty complicated chart, and making the pie charts and bar graphs was difficult enough for me to figure out :P (My computer might be user friendly, but I don't think *I* am).

Date: 2011-01-29 01:56 am (UTC)My favorite is Sam jacket in the cap above, which he was stabbed and killed in - lay decomposing for 2 days in - and still kept wearing. Thankfully, they didn't try to bring it back from fire.
But yeah, personally, if I was on the wardrobe team, I think it'd be more fun to sew little fake bullet-hole patches on the jackets before I let the boys wear the same coats/shirts again...but that's me. I'm obviously a little obsessed with detail ;)
In terms of statistics telling a tale...I've had to wonder about S3 (I'll probably have those stats in another week or so, but you can get the gist already if you go to my clothing post for S3), when Sam has SO many more clothes than Dean. The angsty part of me keeps picturing Dean buying Sam more and more clothes in some weird subconscious desire to make sure Sam is well-stocked after Dean dies....it's so depressing!

Date: 2011-01-29 07:45 am (UTC)What's even more confusing is the fact that I've actually seen the Impala in person before...it is impeccably clean and uncluttered on the inside. I mean, I knew it was a filming car on a set, but still, it was so weird to see such a clean car and think "if the brothers were real, there'd be no way the car would be this clean."
But yeah, in my personal-canon, they keep duffles on the floor by the back seat. :P
I was saying that I should do a graph some how of how many clothes are destroyed or never seen again from season to season, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. Perhaps something I'll attempt after I finish posting all the aired seasons. ;)

Very cool pie graphs. Blueberry and Apple. Mmm.
