So, yesterday I was friended by [livejournal.com profile] nwspaprtaxis , who happens to like my If Clothes Could Talk project. We got to talking about how I should totally make graphs and visual representations for my clothing stats - because I guess we are both dorks. Anyway, I said I would look into it on the weekend...

But um...I love charts and graphs! And I needed something to do last night to cheer myself up...so, I present....

SEASON 1:

SEASON 2:

Sam and Dean don't always wear all the clothes they own, so the following bar graph also keeps track of how many clothes remain "packed" (that is to say, they were used in the previous season and the next season, but not the current season):

And there you have it! Now...just as I was putting those charts in this post - I realized that there's a shirt introduced in S3, that Dean has actually had since high school (ETA: entry here)...so technically, Dean's "packed" shirt count in S1 and S2 is off by one. Sigh. Is it worth redoing all the charts? Probably not. Let's pretend he found the shirt in John's storage unit in Black Rock.

(Sam is terrified by the monster I have become! ....or maybe he is trying to demonstrate why he needs more clothes than Dean.)

I have added them to the Season 1 and Season 2 master lists. I'm still working on posting S3, but I will say that if you think Sam has way more clothes than Dean NOW.....

Enjoy!

And by "adorable" you mean "awesome" right?!?!

Oh who am I kidding...I'll take adorable :P

Oh, tell us what shirt Dean found in John's storage locker! I don't want to wait till you're all done with season 3, I need something fun to take my mind off what is not on TV tonight!

Ok, just because you asked nicely, I went a little out of order and put up its entry early: http://hells-half-acre.livejournal.com/201006.html

Enjoy! (I think you'll like the cap I used ;) )

This is all kinds of awesome! Charts and graphs rock. Yes, I'm a geek. :)

Yay! I can't believe I didn't do this sooner really...it's given me extra motivation to finish up posting the S3 clothes so that I can do MORE charts and graphs! :P

The charts and graphs make it that much easier to see how many more clothes Sam really has...or goes through. Or he just replaces the ones he goes through faster than Dean bothers to replace his.

This is fascinating. I love how statistics can tell a tale. So now I've got to imagine WHY Sam has so many more clothes than Dean. Hmmm.... What I'd really love is whatever SPN uses to repair a shirt, etc., that has bloodstains, bullet holes, etc., and then be in perfect repair a few years later. I don't have ant bloodstains, bullet holes, etc., but I have had a few nasty stains and/or tears in a favorite clothing item that then ends in the rag pile.

Maybe when the show is over (shudder to think) I'll find some way to graph clothes-survivability.

Sam has a lot more one-off shirts than Dean...especially in S3. Those are shirts only seen once in the series. That being said, I think besides Sam ditching his unique T's, sweaters and hoodies at the end of S1, Sam and Dean probably have similar ratios of re-used vs. new clothes...it's just that Sam owns way more clothes. He does has a greater wardrobe to cycle through.

Anyway, that would be a pretty complicated chart, and making the pie charts and bar graphs was difficult enough for me to figure out :P (My computer might be user friendly, but I don't think *I* am).

Yes, forget construction - Dean totally should have been a tailor when he retired from Hunting. It's amazing what their clothes can survive... :P

My favorite is Sam jacket in the cap above, which he was stabbed and killed in - lay decomposing for 2 days in - and still kept wearing. Thankfully, they didn't try to bring it back from fire.

But yeah, personally, if I was on the wardrobe team, I think it'd be more fun to sew little fake bullet-hole patches on the jackets before I let the boys wear the same coats/shirts again...but that's me. I'm obviously a little obsessed with detail ;)

In terms of statistics telling a tale...I've had to wonder about S3 (I'll probably have those stats in another week or so, but you can get the gist already if you go to my clothing post for S3), when Sam has SO many more clothes than Dean. The angsty part of me keeps picturing Dean buying Sam more and more clothes in some weird subconscious desire to make sure Sam is well-stocked after Dean dies....it's so depressing!

I think it fully supports the theory that Sam is the pretty princess of the Winchester family ;)

(I kid because I love)

These are awesome graphs. How do they get this all in a duffle bag or in the trunk? I think S2 Sam has more shirts than I do. Of course, I don't regularly get throttled, thrown, shot, bled on or slimed....

I think their clothes are in the floor board of the back seat.

Do you do blueprints too? Because we could use one of the extra spaces built into the Impala for storage! Maybe a bar graph comparing The Impala with other impalas in capacity...

(Not really. But I do wonder where all those clothes are stored!)

Very cool pie graphs. Blueberry and Apple. Mmm.

I do not know where they keep it all! Especially since they also have a green beer cooler somewhere in that car too. (Though, from experience, I know that coolers fit very nicely behind the drivers seat in most cars.)

What's even more confusing is the fact that I've actually seen the Impala in person before...it is impeccably clean and uncluttered on the inside. I mean, I knew it was a filming car on a set, but still, it was so weird to see such a clean car and think "if the brothers were real, there'd be no way the car would be this clean."

But yeah, in my personal-canon, they keep duffles on the floor by the back seat. :P

I was saying that I should do a graph some how of how many clothes are destroyed or never seen again from season to season, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. Perhaps something I'll attempt after I finish posting all the aired seasons. ;)

Hahaha, yes, I should measure the space taken up by an average male shirt and then extrapolate from there and...or we'll just treat the Impala like Mary Poppins' hand bag ;)

I was thinking blueberry and raspberry myself, but I like your version too! :)
