And thus we come to the end of my Rewatch S3 series. I'm not gong to Rewatch S4 until it is out on DVD, so that won't happen until next year. But, this means that my Timeline is all done up until the end of S3, so I'll post that soon.

This was fun though, I enjoyed it...and I've timed it really well, considering 4x11 airs tonight. :-)

Time Is On My Side

I totally forgot to count the days in this one, and then had to guess by memory, because I was too lazy to go back and check. Ah well, that's human error for you.

This episode is so gross. There is a reason I never became a doctor.

It's also the first time (and only) time that it's pointed out that every demon they send back to hell is just going to be waiting in hell for when Dean arrives...poor Dean.

Dean will get rid of the sadness with a joke:
Dean: "Zombies do like the other other white meat"

I like Sam telling Dean about the maggots while Dean is eating, and Dean getting all disgusted, and Sam smiling...good times.

Oh, one thing I really like about this episode is the dude with the heat-rate wrist watch. I think that was a really cool idea.

This episode is so gross though, I can't believe what they are allowed to show on TV really...back when I was a kid, I don't think this would have aired...mind you, they didn't have the special effects back then to make it look so realistic.

And the truth comes out about Sam's motives behind this hunt - the reasons for all his secret smiles and leading questions...and we discover that Desperate!Sammy is Stupid!Sammy.

I still remember the first time I watched this though, and the scene where the boys go their separate ways - Dean to find Bela and Sam to find immortality dude - I remember yelling at the screen "You have 3 weeks left! You should be spending EVERY MOMENT together!! What the hell boys?!!?" Seriously, it breaks my heart...especially Dean's "Sammy...be careful."

And old Hunter dude ways in on his take on the end of the series "Folks like us, there ain't no happy endings."

We finally find out about Bela, that she's only 24 for starters - that's a surprise. She's younger than Sam! She certainly doesn't look it...but that means that I have to add her to the small list of Younger-Hunters that I have going in my head (Dean, Sam, Jo, Ritchie, Bela)..even though I know Bela isn't technically a Hunter.

Ugh, the eye scene! If I were Jared I would NOT have let them do that...I would have a clause in my contract that said "NO PRETENDING TO TAKE MY EYE OUT!" Seriously, I can't even watch this scene.

And then Dean saves the day, and reiterates that he likes to see things as either good or evil and not shades of gray. This pushes me further into believing that his amulet is Zoroastrian and not Egyptian, but that's a little off topic.

This marks the second monster they've "killed" that they haven't actually killed...just buried. There was crazy psycho-ghost in Philadelphia and not this guy. Hopefully no one ever develops the land around there.

No Rest For The Wicked

This supposedly takes place over 30 hours, but that seems a little far fetched to me...actually, do they start at Bobby's? I thought they started at Bobby's, but maybe they don't...it's just some cabin..hmmm...well, then maybe it's plausible.

Crazy Sam face! I was concerned later on in this episode when Dean started seeing demons' true faces, that maybe the crazy Sam face was actually Sam's face! But then I remembered the dude's wife from Crossroad Blues, and she wasn't a demon or a possible anti-christ. So, crazy Sam face is just a regular hallucination.

Dean calls Sam "Anti-Christ superstar" when he is yelling at Ruby...and that marks the first time a Winchester has mentioned Sam and Anti-Christ in the same sentence.

Dean: "Ruby's just jerking your chain down the road. You know what it's paved with and you know where it's going!"

And then we get to the dramatic speech:
Dean: "All I'm saying is, you're my weak spot - you are - and I'm yours."
Sam: "You don't mean that, we're family"
Dean: "I know, and these evil sonsofbitches know it too. I mean the things we're willing do for each other, how far we'd go, they're using it against us."
Sam: "So what? We just stop looking out for each other?"
Dean: "No, we stop being martyrs [...] we take this knife and we go after Lilith our way. The way Dad taught us to, and if we go down then we go down swinging. Whattaya think?"
Sam: "I think you totally should have been jamming 'Eye of the Tiger' right there"
Dean: "Bite me. I totally rehersed that speech too."

I love that speech because it shows two things: 1)Dean recognizes that martyrdom might not be the answer, which is a pretty awesome (in the original sense of the word) thought for Dean of all people to have. 2)Sam has the same deflect-seriousness-with-humour tactics as Dean does occasionally - one could, of course, argue that Sam made the joke for Dean's benefit and not his own, but personally I think it has the same 'I'm not ready to think about or discuss this now' meaning as Dean's usual wisecracks.

Dean: "We got the knife"
Bobby: "And you're planning on doing it without me? Do I look like a ditchable prom date to you?"
-hehehe, I love that Bobby-line, anyway onward...
Sam: "No Bobby, of course not."
Dean: "This is about me and Sam, this isn't your fight."
Bobby: "The hell it isn't! Family don't end with blood, boy!"

I love Dean's face when Bobby says "the hell it isn't!"...it's such a great flinch, it's exactly like the flinch he had in AHBL2 when Bobby yelled at him about the deal - that kind of "I'm sorry I made you mad, but why did do you care?" flinch...Dean is so thick when it comes to realizing that people love him.

Dean: "No, you are not going to bust out the misty goodbye speech, okay? And if this is my last day on earth, I do not want it to be socially awkward."

And then we get the infamous Bon Jovi scene. Man, it kills me with both humour and sadness. I like Jensen purposefully singing off rhythm so that he sounds just as bad as Jared. I also love the little Sam's head movement on the background part, and the smile, sort of makes me think that this isn't the first time that they've sung along to Bon Jovi, but they probably haven't done it since they were kids. (Me and my siblings used to sing along to Bon Jovi on car trips all the time, so maybe that's where that thought comes from. We've kicked the Bon Jovi habit since, but at least me and my little sister still can't resist Tom Petty)

I love the fact that Sam actually says the words "we'll ninja past those guys" when he is describing a plan.

Dean: "But what you're doing...it's not going to save me, it's only going to kill you."

And of course there's not much to say about Dean's final words...but I love the fact that there's that echo of ALHBL2 when Sam asks Dean "What am I supposed to do?"

Special Features

There aren't that  many Specia Features on the S3 disc. I'm not sure if this had to do with the writers strike as well, scheduling, or something else entirely, but it's sort of disappointing. There is the Ghostfacers Confessionals, which I've already talked about, and there is the gag reel, which is self-explanatory, and then...

Impala Featurette - there's a little featurette with the guys who look after the cars and one of the prop dudes. They don't say how many cars they have, but they mention that they keep all the ones they have because it's getting harder to find '67 Impalas. Everything on the car is stock-parts, except that they have to paint the cars black (I believe, though they don't say, that the original '67 Impala was baby blue) and they added the black seats. The prop guy talks about the trunk. Points out Sam's sawed off and Deans, hold their favorite handguns too, and then shows three different versions of the Colt - one of which is rubber for pistol-whipping people, but he says they don't often do that.

Legends to Reality - Special Effects featurette - this has a bunch of interviews with people about the special effects team, and the make-up effects team. It's pretty interesting to see how much work goes into even the most small things. You get a nice behind the scenes look at the process, and you get to see them building a 3D computer model of Jensen (which is sexy in its accuracy) for some of the deaths in Mystery Spot, and the special effects dude says "As much of a nice guy as Jensen is, he won't let us hit him with a car."
