I'm supposed to be asleep right now, but I don't feel tired enough, so you get a midnight post instead.

Along with the "favourite scenes" suggestion for what I should post in the summer, a few people mentioned that maybe I could do fic recs, and talk about why I like the particular fic I chose.

Now, of course, the first problem with this suggestion is that most of you read my blog for Supernatural content, and I don't read Supernatural fic anymore (haven't for years). I SOMETIMES, make an exception for an AU, but for the most part, those really don't reach the level of "favourite fics" (sorry, I just, for some reason, am not drawn to SPN-based fics anymore.)

The second problem with this suggestion is that I'm actually not one to reread fics a lot, or to save them forever. It's true, that when fics are REALLY GOOD, I will bookmark them on AO3 and leave myself a little note to remind myself why I liked it (which I will use as the cut-text below)... but even though I do that, I rarely go back and read them again. For instance: when I scrolled through my AO3 bookmarks to pick a fic to rec, several of the fics I have previously bookmarked have since been deleted - which is sad indeed - especially since I have no idea what fics they possibly were, because I only read them once and then moved on with my life.

BUT, there are a few exceptions to my "never thought of again" tendency, and so I figured if I were going to rec any fics, it'll be the ones that occasionally pop into my head out of the blue months or years later, and have me think "goddamn, that was a good fic."

So, in no particular order, I'm going to start with:

All The Angels and the Saints by Speranza
Fandom: Captain America (Movies)
Summary: In which Steve Rogers loses God and finds God and loses God, and also: Bucky.

Gorgeous. Very rich characterizations. Much love. I want to read fanfiction of this fanfiction. )

(and now I'm exhausted, so definitely time to sleep.)

I know, I know, another Captain America fic, but the dice today choose daily-prompt, and the prompt was a picture of Europe (or at least that's what it looked like to me) - specifically, continental Europe... so, what was I supposed to do? Supernatural and Teen Wolf are both US based shows, Sherlock and Merlin are the UK... but MCU has a very well traveled cast of characters.

And so, here's a little Winter Soldier character piece for you, set pre-CA:TWS.

Prompt:

Half Destroyed
Words: 642

I know this place, but half destroyed )

The End.

(The picture is actually Slovakia, which I'm not sure if Steve and Bucky were ever in during the war, but let's pretend that they were... even though I'm pretty sure that area was liberated by the Russians. But, I mean, come on, it's Captain America, I really shouldn't be worried about historical accuracy!)

Today the dice rolled an 11! Amazing! I haven't rolled higher than a 5 since June 1st.

An 11 meant that I got to choose a prompt from YOU GUYS. The secondary dice roll decided that today I would be using [livejournal.com profile] katsheswims' prompt. (FYI: You can still prompt me by going to my prompt post and leaving one there.)

Prompt: Hmmm, maybe something in MCU with Steve (and others) attempting to help Bucky get his mind back together/his memories back via hypnosis [not that I think that would be a great idea in real life--so hey it could go badly too...].

I decided to go for something lighthearted rather than tragic or too serious - mainly because yesterday's ficlet was on the serious side, and also because I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to hypnosis. Also, making it lighthearted meant I could reuse a joke that my sister once pulled on me when I set up a recording device in her room to prove to her that she talked in her sleep.

So... to the fic...

You Are Getting Sleepy
Words: 1,625
Spoilers: Post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Special Appearances by: Tony Stark

“Please,” Tony said. “You trust me way more than you’d trust any professional hypnotist – come on! It’ll be fun! What’s the worst that can happen? It either works or it doesn’t, and Steve will be there the whole time, so you know your virtue is safe-” )

The End.

Hope you enjoyed it!

Sorry to any of you who are getting sick of MCU fic. Don't worry, I'll be switching it up soon, I'm sure.

Today, I rolled a 5 for the third day in a row, which means that the prompt comes, yet again, from yalumesse's 30 day prompt list.

The secondary dice roll declared that I do prompt #26.

Prompt: out of chronological order (backwards, back-and-forth, etc - anything but linear)

This prompt actually kind of fit in with an idea I already had for a fic, so I decided to just write that. Of course, because I had been developing this idea for a while, it ended up much longer than my usual ficlet... also, I spent 3-4 hours on it instead of working at my actual job.

Once again, it's Captain America (MCU), because it's my current fandom obsession, apparently.

The Time Traveler
Words: 2,834
Spoiler Warnings: post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier

“You’re breaking my heart, kid,” the robot says. )

The End.

I liked this one so much, I've posted it on AO3 too.

Today the dice actually rolled something other than a 4! (They rolled a 5!) That meant that I got to roll another set of die in order to choose a prompt from yalumesse's 30 day prompt list.

The prompt: #19. Historical Alternate Universe

Point of honesty: I'm not a huge fan of Historical AUs, probably because I studied history. So, I was slightly at a loss for what to write. I mentioned it to [livejournal.com profile] franztastisch and she sent me some suggestions. One of which was a Steve/Bucky story set during the Easter Rising in 1916 - because [livejournal.com profile] franztastisch knows what I wrote my MA thesis about. ;) She then went on to suggest that I make it Steve/Bucky/Peggy, because it's fun to throw in a British love-interest when you're writing about Irish nationalism... and also threesomes, yay!

In the interest of time, I've made the Steve/Bucky/Peggy ship already established. Also, I realize that it's a bit unbelievable that a woman would live with two guys in 1916 in a Catholic country, but you'll just have to cut me some slack - I'm hoping that I've kind of hand-waved it enough.

So, I present to you my MA thesis in fic form!

The Rising
(Steve/Bucky/Peggy, pre-serum Steve,pre-Winter Soldier Bucky, Historical AU)
Words: 1,776

The next day, they arrested Bucky. )

The End.

*The last line, starting at "if mere bloodshed..." is taken from an editorial in the Freeman's Journal, from May 10th, 1916 (page 2). (Sorry, me=historian, therefore must cite.)

I actually reread my entire MA thesis to write this, by the way, so that I could get things right.

Oh man, so after getting only four hours of sleep last night, I rolled the dice before writing group this morning...

The dice once again chose daily-prompt. I cringed, because I knew that I had no ideas for the next prompt (working backwards from the last post) on that site. So, I went to writing group and worked on my latest attempt at a novel instead... and man, Wednesdays are going to be horrible for getting daily fics done. I can already tell. I'm so exhausted... mind you, it's my own damn fault for staying up too late. I should stop doing that.

Blah blah blah... long story short, at the end of the day I checked daily-prompt again and they actually had a new prompt! So, I wrote to that one instead.

Another Captain America fic (sorry to the most of you, who aren't in that fandom and couldn't care less)...

Prompt:
You only know what I want you to
I know everything you don't want me to
Oh your mouth is poison, your mouth is wine
You think your dreams are the same as mine
Oh I don't love you but I always will
Oh I don't love you but I always will
Oh I don't love you but I always will
I always will
-Poison & Wine; The Civil Wars

You Only Know What I Want You To
Words: 532

Bucky doesn’t tell Steve that he’s noticed the way Steve’s looks at him. )

End.

Kind of a bit of a darker piece again. I keep hoping the dice will roll me a comedy, but alas! If I were actually playing D&D with them right now, I'd be losing a fight.

If you wanted, you could believe this is the same universe as my previous Captain America fic. Fun! Maybe that should be something I try to do during this month... make my drabbles be in the same 'verse. We'll see.
