Update! I'm still alive. Things are busy.

1. Rewatches - I have two more to do! I literally haven't had a four hour block of time in which to do one. I'm crossing my fingers for the weekend. For the next three days, my apartment is under construction (new windows!) so, yeah, it's definitely not going to happen until the weekend.

2. Demented'verse - Man, I really miss the engagement of 2009-2011LJ. I should really work on figuring out how to be a better tumblr-er. Anyway, that aside, I'm really hoping to finish up writing Part 2 of PPP SOON... and then send it off to betas for the cursory homonym and sense-making check. My original goal was the 12th, but it might have to be pushed back to the 19th. The good news is that it will be twice as long as Part 1.

3. Cosplay - so, I made a joke on FB that because of the fact that I can't afford a haircut, I now look like the Winter Soldier. Little did I know that a friend of mine has a love for crafting costumes. As a result, I am now going to cosplay as the Winter Soldier at Emerald City ComicCon at the end of the month. For someone who doesn't like bringing attention to herself, this is very odd behaviour for me... on the other hand, I also love pretending I'm an assassin and wearing men's clothing (not necessarily at the same time). Because I'm unemployed though, this is a cosplay on a very tight budget. So far I have spent approximately $48, and I still need to pick up some elastic and velco... and a black fingerless glove.

4. Speaking of my friend - If you have a Kindle and a dollar, you can read Tash's novella, Slam. It's really good! And it's about 30k, so it's a quick read. Tash is really great at world/character building. I'm a little jealous.

5. Job - I still don't have one. I've got a part time job that only pays half my bills... and I just signed up to be a tutor, that starts next week. Little nervous, because I haven't tutored anyone anything since I was in university - but hopefully it goes okay. Anyway, I'm a giant failure when it comes to having a career and I have no idea what the solution is. Weeping doesn't seem to help.

You'll be a wonderful tutor and you will find a bill-paying job soon.

Not gonna lie, that's the exact same reason I decided to cosplay Winter Soldier lol. How are you doing the arm? I have silver spray paint and probably lots of craft foam left over if you need it, plus some knowledge on how to make it. :) I made mine to go over a cheap fake leather jacket I found at Walmart. I'm all about budge cosplay and it still cost me around $100-$150 since I had to buy the jacket, boots, and pants, plus I got fake guns at a costume store. It added up...

Haha, great minds think alike... ;)

I should be good for foam and spray paint, I just bought them today, but thanks for the offer! I got a cheap leather jacket at Value Village. So, yeah, it's not going to be an exact costume, of course.

I think I should be able to stay under $60, but that's only because I'm borrowing Tash's boots. Mind you, I still need to find a black fingerless glove too, so who knows.

Also, I'm not bothering with the guns. I will be an unarmed Winter Soldier. :P

You can get cheap knit gloves at places like Target, WalMart, K-Mart, etc, and cut the fingers off. They'll want to ravel a bit but they'll last you for one costume appearance.

Damn it, now I want somewhere to wear my stealth cosplay. :)

Yeah, that's what I'll do if I can't stitch together a leather one out of the scraps I have.

And you should totally go somewhere in your stealth cosplay!

Yay to more PPP! :D

And DEFINITELY YAY TO COSPLAY. :D :D At MCM Manchester I met a girl cosplaying Winter Soldier. I tried to get her to buy a flower crown. I thought that would help. :P I'm in the process (well... I have been for a while) of making a Thor helmet and Mjolnir to go with my Thor costume. Not got much further than about three weeks ago so...

And I feel you on the job front. *le sigh* Something will come along. *hugs*

*hugs* thanks! I'm sure something will come along for you too. *hang in there kitty poster*

Cool about your in-progress Thor-helmet! We start construction of my arm tomorrow - provided I pick up the velco and elastic today. Not sure about the fingerless glove. I might try to make one out of some leather scraps that I have. It'd have to be handsewn though, because my sewing machine is not tough enough for leather. (I broke three needles when I tried to mend a pair of jeans).

If I get my act together, I'll post a picture. It's pretty cool actually. Not cos I made it or anything, more because... well, it's a helmet. Made out of cardboard. And I can wear it. You know? Someone worked out how to make that, and it's amazing. And I did a little, cos it was a Cap helmet pattern, so I had to modify it but... yeah. People can make such awesome things.

For a moment there I thought you meant you owned leather jeans, and I was confused. :P To be fair though, I think gloves would have to be made by hand anyway. They're too small for a standard sewing machine surely?

Cool. Yeah, I'll probably post pictures of my costume. My friend wants to make a cap helmet, but they're going to alter a hat they already have.

Haha, no, leather jeans - I just meant thick material is no good. I can do pretty small things on my machine, but yeah, probably better using hand-sewing anyway... especially if I'm doing the knuckle holes.

Well, if you need it, I can totally dig up the tutorial. It comes with a template and everything. And yay for photos! :D

I've not mastered the art of small things on the sewing machine. But I'm also a trail and error sort of person, so like hand sewing cos it's easier to fix. :P

True, I'm not saying I'm particularly skilled at the sewing machine... and hand-sewing IS easier to both fix and not do wrong in the first place. :P

I also miss the engagement and activity on LJ from the 2009-2011 time. It's just really not the same anymore and I miss the flurry of posts, comments, and the like. So many people have dropped off and others are just too busy or they have become lurkers instead of commenters. It's too bad.

I could never Cosplay, so good for you for extending yourself out of your comfort zone and doing something completely OOC. Have fun with it.

Too bad you haven't found a job yet. Something has got to pop, right? It's good, though, that you at least have some part-time stuff to help carry you over. And no, weeping doesn't help, but there are times where it seems that is all you can do. It's no fun scrounging for money and just doing whatever you can to make ends meet. I hope something comes for you sooner rather than later.

Thanks! I'm sure I'll figure out something. Maybe I'll just go back to what I was doing before.

There is always that. Going back to the other stuff. It wouldn't be ideal, but at least it would be income. Right?! That's the most important thing at this time.
