Hello, British people or anglophiles....or those living in the UK....or just those that watch a lot of BBC shows,

What's the go-to fake phone number on TV dramas? I know that in the US, it's any number that's 555-XXXX. What do British shows do?

I need to put a number in the demented'verse because one of my British characters actually has a phone - but I don't want to accidentally put in a REAL number. So, I need something that looks believably like a regular number, but is fake.

Easiest if you're doing a mobile number is to start it 079. If you want a landline number it depends where your character lives (London is usually 020) and companies are usually 0800. All numbers have 11 digits. Hope that helps. :)

So, if I needed a mobile number, I could just write 079 4582 0472?

But what do shows do when they don't want to accidentally give out someone's mobile number? Do they do like Americans and write it 079 5555 9375 or something? Or do they just never write anything that lists or says a number out loud?

07700900461 The Doctor's phone number from the show. I doubt this connects to anything but an ad for the BBC.

Hope that helps.

Interesting! That'd be a funny easter-egg for my fic... one of my characters is secretly the Doctor :P

It DOES give me a number that isn't anyone's number though and was set up for TV, so yes, it helps tremendously, thanks!
