Agent Carter (and Galavant)

hells_half_acreWooo! Just finished watching Agent Carter and it is awesome!
It is all that I wanted and more.
So, let's talk about it!
Things I loved:
1. Captain America is the fridged girlfriend. Steve Rogers it the boyfriend that Agent Carter lost that has caused her to become depressed and less awesome than normal and to close herself off to those around her.
2. 50% of her significant relationships in the show (so far) are with women - and arguably, her most loving relationship is with a woman. (I'm not including Stark in this, since he's just a once-in-a-while appearance. But, I suppose if you count him, then it's actually 60/40 split in favour of men.... and then one of those significant female relationships gets fridged, so it's actually worse than that... and sigh... I'll get to that in the next section.)
3. I love the fact that they also have Daniel in the show, being both a non-sexist (or at least not AS sexist) member of the SSR and someone who is discriminated against himself for being disabled.
4. I love Jarvis, I do. I like how he's a partner for Peggy, but there's absolutely no romantic tension there - and also it's made very clear that he has absolutely no skills, so there's never any question that Peggy's the biggest badass in the room at all times. I also love how despite Jarvis' prim-and-proper attitude, that he's really quite enjoying the thrills of undercover work. I also love him because he's basically the "woman" - he has the skills and personality that everyone in the SSR thinks that Peggy should have.
5. The fight scenes are great!
6. I also love Peggy using people's treatment of women to her advantage. Like when the men don't stop talking when she comes in to pour them coffee - but only notice her prescence when she stays too long.
7. I loved the fight scene that was soundtracked by the radio program of Captain America rescuing "Betty Carver" - so well done and hilarious.
8. I loved how in the radio program they had Captain America rescuing the 107th because "Betty Carver" had been kidnapped along with them - rather than having him rescue the 107th because Bucky was in the 107th. It was a nice subtextual poke at the homophobia of the era too (and continued homophobia).
9. I loved how they kept what was great about the Agent Carter short - ie: Peggy doing the SSR job better than all the sexist SSR men, before they even got their foot out the doors - only this time adding a high-tension situation where she's got to do it all in secret because she's basically commiting treason by helping Stark.
Things I didn't love:
1. That even though they had already fridged Steve, they still had to fridge Peggy's roommate. I mean, I can see how it cements the "I have to work alone" attitude of Peggy - but I think that could have easily been explained just by Peggy knowing that her work is dangerous and also by the fact that the more people treat you like you can't do anything, the more you want to do everything without any help whatsoever to prove them all wrong. Which is basically what Peggy's doing. Yes, there's an element of not wanting to get Jarvis hurt - but I think she mainly doesn't want Jarvis to help, because he's a man, and Peggy doesn't fuckin' need men helping her and thinking that she's incapable of doing everything herself.
2. So, I know this is comic-book stuff and the rules of physics don't apply - but if that whole refinery got smashed down to that tiny ball - that thing would weigh TONS, you would not be able to get it on the back of a flatbed, and you would not be able to pry it apart and find an intact ANYTHING let alone a license plate.
So, yay, overall - awesomesauce! Can't wait for more!
I also watched Galavant! I don't have much to say about it besides the fact that it was great fun and I'm looking forward to more! I have got the song "Galavant" stuck in my head now.Also, I loved loved loved how they had repurcussions to Galavant's training. During the whole montage, I was like "If you actually worked out that hard the day before, it'd ruin you for the actual event." And then they had that happen! Awesome and hilarious! Also, I love the fact that Galavant's tragic backstory was getting dumped.
Anyway, 2015 already has two new awesome miniseries, so fun! :)
Now I need an Agent Carter icon, methinks.

I really liked Sousa. I also really like all those shitty guys just for being shitty guys. especially Chad Michael Murray just because he's CMM and SPN RPF has made sure I never take him seriously in anything.
But mostly? Hayley Atwell is HELLA FUCKING ATTRACTIVE. And Peggy Carter is THE SHIT. :D

Date: 2015-01-07 04:15 pm (UTC)I have a great uncle who lost a leg in the war! To my knowledge, he did not become a spy afterwards, but yeah... also, Daniel Sousa looks a little like my cousin (whose name is also Daniel)... so, yeah, I hope he stays awesome and a good guy.
The show kicks so much ass. It's fantastic!
And you are far quicker than me on finding an icon - but then again, I HAVE been asleep for the past 7 hours. :P

The only thing I'm pissed about is that Channel 4 didn't think it would be worth airing Agent Carter, even though they have Agents of SHIELD, so I have to stream this. Fuck you Channel 4.

Date: 2015-01-07 05:19 pm (UTC)Yeah, when I was looking for Cap icons, I was looking for some for my Steve/Bucky story, so I focused my search on those guys - obviously, I should have thought ahead!! ;)
I remember CMM being mentioned in connection to Marvel, but I'm such a spoilerphobe that I didn't realize that it was for Agent Carter - and then I was too absorbed in the show to recognize him. (Plus, I'm used to seeing him more as a slight-stoner type fellow, thanks probably to RPF - so it just didn't click that it was him all done up nice with his hair styled. :P )

Date: 2015-01-07 05:36 pm (UTC)Haha yeah. That's partially why I found it hilarious. But hey, now I know why some people find him attractive! He looks pretty good all scrubbed up with a proper hair cut. :P But he also reminds me of someone now, and it's bothering me that I can't remember who.
