What TV Show Should I Watch?

Now that Merlin is over and since Sherlock hardly counts as a show - how shall I supplement my TV watching experience this summer while Supernatural is on hiatus?

I was thinking maybe Spartacus, but I'm a little worried that it's too gory for me. I have a hard time with gore, even when it's stylized. I've also heard that it's pretty damn sexy though, which is a bonus. I'm very much of the European sensibility when it comes to sex and violence: sex=good, violence=bad.

On the other hand, I've been reading Teen Wolf fanfiction recently, because I love me some werewolves. My worry with Teen Wolf is that I've heard that the fanfic is actually better than the show....or that, at the very least, the fanfic is NOTHING like the show - so just because I like the fanfic doesn't mean that I'll like the show, or I might be setting myself up for disappointment one way or another anyway.

Then there's Warehouse 13, which was recommended to me, but I don't know anything about - besides, um... there's a warehouse? And it has to do with aliens or supernatural or something? And one of the actresses has a sexy deep voice in real life.

White Collar - someone recommended this to me possibly two years ago... I never watched it, but it was recommended solely because I enjoy threesome dynamics. Other than containing a possible threesome (at least in fanfic), I don't know anything about its quality though.

If you want to recommend another show to me, keep in mind the following:
1) Sex is good, violence is bad!
2) I deal with rape a lot at work and I don't like it in my entertainment.
3) I actually prefer shows that have been on the air for a while and have proven to either be consistent in quality or increase in quality as they age. So, just like when recommending fanfic - when possible, avoid WIPs or at least only recommend WIPs that are definitely going to update to a satisfying conclusion.

You totally should watch both. :) Start with Teen Wolf to be ready for s3 (it won't take that long, and it gets addicting mid-s1), then you can watch White Collar in time for September! If you manage to aim it so you finish season 4 right before s5 starts then you won't have to suffer through the evil cliffhanger we're all waiting on... WC loves its cliffhangers, and you are super lucky that you can just blast through all of them! I've watched it from the start. They have mid-season breaks of several months and I swear those cliffhangers are sometimes worse than the season finale ones. Bah. Anyway though, it's a nice mix between plot-based and stand-alone episodes. It's one of the few shows where I actually really enjoy the stand-alone ones, sometimes more than the plot ones. Because they're just so much fun!

Lol well they're short at least? Or TW is anyway. Episode a day and it'll be done in time for s3!

(I'm watching like 3-4 separate things on Netflix for the first time and I keep jumping between them... plus my regular weekly programming, and my random rewatch of Farscape. So much to watch, so little time! also lazy. and easily distracted by rewatching shows that I have already seen multiple times.)

I can't start watching until after May 9th, but yeah, I suppose with that one I could probably still finish before S3 starts.

I'm possibly the only person who has not made the move to Netflix. I still do everything the illegal way. :P

I do some stuff the illegal way, but Netflix is handy! Faster than having to search for a torrent stuff, generally. And ultimately I'm happy to do something legally when it's easy and not too expensive. I got a blockless.com account so I have access to American Netflix - way more programming. Both Teen Wolf and White Collar are on there, and I don't think they're on Canadian Netflix. I didn't used to bother with Netflix because the selection was crap and I had no way of hooking up my old computer to my old TV. But now I can do that really easily and the selection is much better, so it's great. Makes marathoning much easier.

(completely unrelated, I am totally procrastinating from my yearly attempt to write fic... so thanks for the distractions. ;) I have somehow committed 900 words of Game of Thrones fic. And it's gen-bordering-on-het. Wth is going on with me lol. Where's the gay porn?? also writing is hard. this is why I only attempt it once to twice a year)

Cool. I didn't know about blockless - that's really neat! I usually use IP-masks to watch region-locked online streams, but I didn't know there was a solution to the Netflix issue out there.

And I hear you on the writing is hard thing. :P And yeah, be careful about that lack of gay porn! It's a slippery slope! When I first made this account, I thought it was going to be gay porn all the time and then I only wrote gen, and now I put my gay porn elsewhere because I kind of like the fact that all my stuff here is gen (or only mildly slashy) - I mean, what happened?!?

Yeah Blockless is great. Our esteemed cafe owner recommended it to me. ;) It works for Hulu too. Only problem with Hulu is that if you want a Hulu Plus account (to watch stuff older than the last few episodes/to watch new episodes the day after airing) then you need an American credit card. Or you need to figure out a workaround, and they keep changing things so those don't work apparently.

LOL I am confused by the lack of gay porn. Like, by all rights I should be writing steamy Robb/Theon angst or something, but instead I am writing about the most awesome-est het twosome ever on the show who are not necessarily shippy but damn their relationship is awesome either way. Like, they are currently naked in a tub and yet it is not sexual. My brain, it hurts. (granted it's a continuation of a canon scene from the last ep where they are naked in a tub and it is non-sexual, but still! and the weird thing is, I think it will stay a G-rated fic... I mean it could turn dirty SO EASY you have no idea, I mean she is about to wash him for chrissakes, but oddly I don't want it to).

Yeah, I probably wouldn't bother with Hulu, since I don't actually like its set-up very much anyway. (I've played around with it when I've visited my US-based sister). But I'd definitely be intrigued when it comes to Netflix, which I think I'd get far more use out of.

This is what happens to me 90% of the time that I'm writing. :P

Unfortunately, the secret dirty journal doesn't have much fic on it, because I'm too busy writing for this journal (and working, living, etc.)... but the fic it does have is pretty dirty and is only going to get dirtier, I'm sure. One of these days I'll point you towards it, but today is not that day. ;)

Lol I write so rarely, and most of what I do write turns to porn quickly or was porn from the start... I keep expecting this to turn dirty. We'll see. Right now I am stuck, so. bah writing is hard. This may or may not get finished and it may or may not suck. But I should persevere, try to get better...

I always feel like I write rarely too, which I guess isn't true, judging from the fact that I've written 3 novels worth of HP/SPN crossover fic alone since 2009... but whatever, I still feel horribly unproductive.

But yeah, with the exception of my Sherlock fic, everything ends up being gen... with Sherlock and Merlin, I like to write squint-fic, or basically fic that people can mentally add on "and then they had sex" and it still works. :P
