I was on TV again: Falling Skies 2x09

My second TV appearance! 

I filmed Falling Skies over two days back in February or something...I don't actually remember. Anyway, the episode finally aired, so I got to see if I made it in.

I did! I made it into FOUR SHOTS!




Look at me noticing that people are coming down the broken escalator...have you ever scene better acting?


This is the closest I ever get to camera. I was either going for serious or bored here...or perhaps I was seriously bored. :P I kid, it was actually kind of fun. Usually you aren't allowed to look at the actors, but given the setting of the scene, we actually got to watch them the whole time, so it was more like seeing a play than filming a show.

The work I did on my second day didn't make it into the show at all - which kind of sucks, because I bruised my knee doing that crap. Ah well. Also, as I recall it was a day where we came in and they made us wait and wait - for like 3 hours, and then film for five minutes, and then wait for another hour or two, and then film for ten minutes...and the whole time I'm being paid, so I don't care...but then I look at the shots they used from it, and really, they only needed like two people, and if they had organized their shooting schedule better, they could have saved so much money. But that's show business for you, I guess. And hey, I GOT that money, so I shouldn't point out their inefficientcies (and really, it is par for the course with these projects). Anyway, I enjoyed my second day, even if it didn't make it into the show - that was the day that I discovered Terry O'Quinn playing Spanish guitar in a dark corner of the shopping centre.

For those interested, we filmed in a shopping centre in Surrey that is still under construction. 

ETA: By the way, I'm wearing a costume - not my own clothes. Just in case you're wondering if I actually own a hideous striped pink sweater.

ETA: I also have to decide if I'm going to keep doing extra work. It's fun occasionally, but it can also be REALLY annoying/boring/ill-timed...and I can really only committ to one-day shoots (which Falling Skies was not)...and yeah...I make enough at my real job now that I don't need to do it. So, decisions decisions...

That's really interesting! Maybe being on set isn't terribly exciting, but at least you can say you've been to one, right? :D Also, wow, yeah, that is an UGLY sweater. Good to know you don't own it.

That's soooo cool. This episode was on a week ago, I saw that one and remember the scenes you are talking about. Now I'll have to go rewatch and see if I can find you. I love Falling Skies, it's one of my favorite summer shows. Congrats. Now if you can only finagle your way to be an extra on an SPN shoot, that would be ultra cool.

Haha, yes, I think it's a really fun thing to do to make money while you are unemployed or underemployed - but I don't think I could do it for a living (though some people do).

Yeah, we made fun of my ugly sweater a lot while we were waiting for them to start filming the scene with the escalator (it was the first scene they filmed the day we were there.)

I was thankful for it though, because film sets are really cold, and wearing a sweater gave me an advantage over some of the other extras.

My family says that it's a fun game of Where's Waldo whenever I'm in something. ;)

It would be really cool to be on SPN, but I'm sure it's worth putting my name on the active list again...it's an ongoing internal debate. According to every extra that I've talked to, it's actually really hard to get on SPN...they apparently use extras very infrequently, though you'd think with all those diner scenes and "walking down the street talking" scenes, that wouldn't be the case.

I can see that it would be hard to become an extra for SPN. Yes, they do have diner scenes and other such scenes that require extras, but those kinds of scenes are not as frequent as they are on some other shows. A lot of their stuff is purely for the main and guest actors, or someone that would probably be required to act just a little bit, and not just for extras.

True enough. I met one guy and his wife who played nurse/doctor in an episode - and then another guy who was a demon #5, and a girl who was one of the whores in Frontierland...and then another guy who was a stunt actor. So, those are all parts that go to more seasoned extras, probably union-extras. Or in the case of the girl in Frontierland - she's a film student and that's probably on her file.
