In honour of Jared's 30th Birthday, I thought I'd do another one of these. I don't think I've ever done one mid-summer before, so let's see how it goes.

As usual, I'll be following chronological time rather than the "soap-opera" time that the show has used since S6. As usual, everything is taken from my timeline.

JULY 19th

1994 - (Sometime in the summer) Dean and Sam stayed with a babysitter named Donna in Housatonic, Massachusetts. Dean develops a crush on Donna, while Sam assigns himself a summer reading list. At one point, John is gone for a full two weeks.

1996 - Dean and Sam are probably still thinking fondly of all the fireworks they set off on the the fourth of July.

1997 - (Sometime in the summer) The Winchesters hunt a werewolf.

1998 - (Sometime in the summer) Sam does research in Lincoln, Nebraska, while John and Dean hunt a kitsune nearby.

2005 - (Sometime in the summer) John Winchester teaches Adam Milligan to drive using the Impala.

2006 - John Winchester Dies.

2007 - Sam and Dean have put the dead demons in Elizabethville, Ohio, behind them, and it will be 3 months until we join back up with them. We can only assume that they spent their time living life to the fullest (Dean) and researching desperately in an attempt to save their brother (Sam).

2008 - (Sometime in July) Sam attempts a suicide mission to kill Lilith, but Ruby saves his life. Meanwhile, Dean is being tortured in hell, but is still refusing Alistair's offer to get off the rack.

2009 - Sam works as a bartender in Garber, Oklahoma, while Dean continues to hunt, either alone or with Castiel.

2010 - Dean is a twisted mess of grief and PTSD while living at Lisa's house in Cicero, Indiana. Sam body may have already been resurrected. Sam's soul is tormented in the cage by Lucifer (and possibly Michael too).

2011 - (Sometime in the summer) After discovering that Sam is alive, Dean begins hunting again while still trying to have a home-life at Lisa's. Sam's soul is tormented in the cage by Lucifer (and possibly Michael too).

2012 - Sam and Dean recover from a leviathan attack (and a psychotic episode) at Rufus's cabin near whitefish Montana.

2013 - Unknown - Is Dean still in purgatory? Is Sam still alone?....we won't find out until October!

Wow, Sam and Dean spend a lot of time apart in the summers.

And for those wondering - yes, the date that I favour for John Winchester's death is July 19th, 2006. Here's a tip though: If you ever participate in a trivia contest at a Creation Convention, in the first round of the competition they will ask if John died on November 2nd, and they'll only accept "yes/true" as an answer, even though the correct answer is "no/false."  John either died on July 19th or August 5th, but based on information in S4, I prefer the July date.

This is all kinds of awesome. I love these posts of yours. It is so fun to see where the boys were and what they were doing at a certain period of time.

What episode is the dead demons in Elizabethville? I can't figure that one out for the life of me. I know when you tell me I will kick myself, but I don't know. I thought it might be Jus in Bello, but that is Colorado.

Elizabethville was Sin City. :) We don't see the Winchesters again until October after that.

I'm glad you like these posts! They are fun to do. :)

*slapping head* I was thinking that time was later in S3 than Sin City. It's 3-4 more months before we see the brothers again in Bedtime Stories? Very interesting. Dean was still living it up mostly at this time, in big denial, so I would also bet there was some major fun going on for his part. So very cool.

Indeed! S3 has the most gaps between episodes of any season - partially due to the writer's strike, and partially just due to the writing!

Thanks ;)

I was actually surprised at how much information I had for the summers!

That was the question I lost on at the Boston con. And I KNEW I was right!

The boys do spend a lot of time apart in the summers. I wonder what Sam did in the summers during college. He must have had a job...

I never did the math on Adam. So how did John get the Impala to teach him how to drive when we know that it was Dean's by then? (Or is that fanon?)

Questions, questions, questions.

You were right! They were wrong! They had another question too that was questionable in my opinion - oh yeah, the lock on the Impala trunk. What lock? That was a weird web-game or something during the first series, but in the show the Impala doesn't HAVE a lock on the trunk, so I thought that question also shouldn't have been asked.

So, the problem with Adam is that the show did it's math wrong. Ghoul!Adam tells Sam and Dean that John taught him to drive in the Impala when he was 15, only Adam turned 15 in September 2005, when Dean was already on the road again with Sam IN THE IMPALA. So, the CLOSEST to 15 that John could have taught him to drive in the Impala is the summer of 2005, when he was 14.

Popular fanon is that John gave Dean the Impala when he turned 16, but canon has never actually said so. In 1996 (Dean is 17), Dean drives the Impala to set off the fireworks; but in 1997, we see that John is still driving the Impala too (Dean is 18). All we know is that Dean is driving the Impala by the time John leaves him in October 2005, and referring to it as "my car." Although Sam seems surprised that John let Dean hunt alone, he doesn't seem surprised that Dean is driving the Impala nor does he comment when Dean calls it "my car", so I think we can assume that ownership of the car had been passed to Dean sometime before Sam went to Stanford in 2002 (when Dean was 23). So, it could have been a "21 - officially legal" gift instead?

That all being said, there's no reason why John couldn't have borrowed the car back from Dean in order to go teach Adam how to drive. They may have driven each other's cars casually all the time (It's my opinion that they also shared ownership of the leather jacket in a similar manner until John left it in the motel room in Jericho.)

I think they asked the lock question too, but I answered it correctly. (based on car knowledge, not Supernatural knowledge, I think. Or sheer luck.)

They should have somebody do important math! Any way you slice it, John had to have taken the car from Dean after he gave it to him in order to use it to teach Adam. I suppose the Impala could have been an "officially legal" gift, but it seems odd that John would take it on a long trip if he had his own truck. How would he explain it to Dean? We know they were hunting separately once Sam was gone, but "I'm going on this hunt, you go on that one, but I want to take your car" would just be...weird. My family was pretty easy about borrowing cars when we were all still living at home, but each one still had a primary owner and it was only if something was wrong that you'd borrow someone else's.

The leather jacket thing sounds reasonable;that happened all the time in my family. Of course, there were some items of clothing that I hid from my sisters because I bought them with my own money, but I do see the Winchesters sharing freely.

Yes, it would certainly help if they had someone that could do simple math :P

The only thing I can figure is that John sent Dean on a hunt that required a vehicle that could handle rough terrain, so Dean would be better off in a truck rather than a car. Or John could have simply said, "hey, I miss driving that car, I'm going to take it on a road-trip for old-times sake, and since it was mine first, you can't argue!" And Dean would have been like "Yes, sir :("

I know someone who belongs to a family with three guys in it, and one time I visited him when they were all home one summer. One day we were out and my friend kept fidgeting all day until finally towards the end of the day, he said "you know, I don't think these are my underwear."

So, yeah...clothes sharing. :P

This is SO cool!

One tends to forget that the guys have a life even after we switch our TV set off! ;)

Yeah, it's really fun to imagine what they get up to when we're not watching....that sounds dirtier than I meant it to me, but you know what I mean!!

LOL

Thank you. :)

And I DID win...their trivia contest last year. The prize was $250 worth of Creation merchandise (t-shirts, mugs, posters, etc.) I bought stuff for all my friends at the Con, because honestly, what am I going to do with $250 worth of t-shirts and mugs?! I bought myself one mug for $10, and the rest went to other people.

But I've never bothered to raise a fuss about their false information. I know I'm right, and that's good enough for me. ;)
