Guys...I'm really upset about this. I know I try to keep this journal positive...but...but...Edlund was my favourite. He agreed with me on how the series should end, and his episodes were always the awesomest.

My hopes for the future just diminished, I have to admit. I'm still interested to see what Carver does...but...yeah... sad times.

I thought that learnt there lesson in after S3 about not giving in to network demands... oh man, I really hope that's not true.

I mean, Carver was there back in the day too, so not all hope is lost...but but...a LITTLE hope is lost.

yes, I do hope its not true because I love Ben's episodes - he does uber dark and uber meta so well.

I am curious that Acker/Blacker only wrote one ep, and I didn't see them credited with any other role like story editor, so not sure they could be classed as 'leaving'.

Anyway we'll have to wait and see - either whether the rumour is true, and what it has on S8. Certainly shaping up to be a different season!

Yeah, I'm really hoping this isn't true. Edlund's personality/writing-style worked so well with Supernatural...it was a really happy marriage, I thought.

And yeah, Blacker is fairly recent, it'd be weird if he left after only one episode...hopefully that bodes well for this just being a false rumour.

I'm still excited for Carver coming back, he wrote some of my favourite episodes in the past - so, it's not like I'm jumping ship or anything. I'd just be really sad to lose Edlund if this rumour is true. That man is a genius.

i always thought it was curious that Acker/Blacker only wrote one ep... esp when newbie Robbie Thompson wrote 3 (and three of my favs!)

anyway we'll see - i had heard from a semi reliable source that Edlund was sticking around for S8, but I suppose we'll have tos ee,. He is down to appear at Comic Con, so we'll get news then if not before.

You indirectly make a good point though - I should focus on the good writers the show still has, and Robbie Thompson really did have great episodes this past year. I'm definitely interested in seeing more from him.

Hmm...if he's down for Comic-Con, I'd think he'd be sticking around. Maybe he's just writing less? I know he wanted more time for other projects on the side. I just selfishly don't want him to leave.

Ben's a guest at CC outside of the SPN panel - we was on the list months ago. I think he would be a huge loss to the show, but I suppose I think its pointless to worry about something I can't control! Lets just hope if he's leaving we get to see some new work from him soon - same with Sera!

Anyway, lets hope we find out something official soon one way or the other - fandom gets so whipped up by things during hellatus!

Ah, so he might actually have another project in mind, and may be promoting that at CC. I guess time will tell.

Yes, Fandom likes to wipe itself up into a fury. I keep flashing back to Becky's line "They were grumpy and overly literal..." :P

Losing Sera and Ben is a huge loss for sure...but, we also don't know who might be joining. It'll definitely be interesting to see what happens one way or the other. And who knows, maybe Ben's next project will be so amazing that I won't even mind that he left SPN to do it. ;)

Awww...I'm sad that Sera is gone. While I think she struggled a bit as a showrunner, she did write some REALLY good episodes. Death's Door from this year springs immediately to mind.

I guess we'll see what Jeremy Carver does!

I wonder if they meant Ben Acker and Ben Blacker...seeing as they're writing partners. I think that if Ben Edlund was leaving, it would be a much bigger deal and would be all over the media sites.

It appears they did. Acker confirmed it on twitter. He and Blacker are leaving and Edlund is staying. So, I'm happy.

So, you were right to wait before getting upset like me...in my defense though, I had been drinking. :P

This news definitely has me alarmed, and I hope it's not true. *crossing all fingers and toes* His departure would definitely be a blow to the writing staff of SPN. He penned such awesome episodes, and I'm sure had a lot of good ideas and contributed a lot to the show. There will for certain be a void if he leaves. So, here's hoping that what he "let slip" was misinterpreted and that this will all get cleared up, or confirmed, soon.

As for Acker departing, not much of a loss, if true, since he only came in with S7 and wrote the one episode.

Let's hope someone, somewhere confirms or denies this rumor. Maybe Jim Michaels will answer on twitter. I'm sure he is bound to get deluged with tweets from fans wanting to know for sure.

I saw that. Yes, very very good news. Acker & Blacker were only with us for one season, wrote one episode, so not heartbroken about this change. *phew* *heavy sigh of relief*

If true, I am very sad to see him go, and a little worried. So much of the creative team leaving, and such important members of it :(

On the other hand, maybe it won't be so bad? I didn't think S7, overall, was quite up to their usual standards, and people do get burned out on creative projects no matter how much they love them. Maybe renewal really will be good for the show. Carver was around long enough to get a good feel for the show, but has also been away long enough to get a fresh perspective on things.

And hey, the other side of the coin is - Ben Edlund will be doing something new! I can't help but be excited at the notion that Kripke, Gamble, and Edlund may all have shows on the air in the next couple of years.

So, I guess that answers the question of how reliable is the source! Answer: not very.

I really shouldn't read news when I've been drinking - I tend to react before I consider what the source is...which is not a good way to read news. :P

I do agree with you though that getting in new writers might not be a bad thing. I just want them in addition to Edlund - because I think Edlund still has a lot of great ideas (or at least, it seemed he did in the S6 BluRay special features).

And I am glad Edlund is staying - he does bring something really wonderful to the table, I think. (My issues with S7 weren't really about the ideas, I thought they were great. I just found some of the execution a bit lackluster.)

I agree. I was just rewatching some of it the other day, and I can see what they were TRYING to do and the ideas were good, but the execution was poor.

It's in the BluRay special features on S6...in that book-type feature (I don't have the BluRay, but I watched it at a friends)...but you have to watch all his parts and then think about what end point his opinions on the characters' journeys would lead to. It's not like they ask him outright "how would you want to end the show" and he gives a succinct answer. He rambles about Sam, Dean, and Cas...and you can read between the lines. So, I can't be 100% sure his ideas line up with mine, but they certainly sound like they do.
