Man, LJ is dead these days...hiatus really affects the amount of goings-on around here...I'm going to have to start branching into other fandoms when I want to kill an hour.

Anyway, so I'm writing this Supernatural fic, but I need some information for it. Not Supernatural-related information, just GENERAL information. Which means....

QUESTION TIME!

-What do typical teenagers do to rebel?

I did not have a typical childhood. I honestly do not know what counts as rebellion. So, can anyone help me out? What did YOU do to rebel as a teenager? Drugs? Drinking? Rock&Roll? (Is it honestly like those after school specials?)

Thanks!

ETA: I'm absolutely in love with the bizarre face Sam is making in my moodtheme image! Hahaha...

Uhm does fighting over the tv remote count?

I remember epic battles between me and my brothers and sister, even after we all got a tv of our own. (let's just say we all saved up for our own, even if just to keep the fighting from getting even worse)

Hmm...no, I don't think that counts. Unless you and your sibs were all "Let's fight because it annoys Mum and Dad! THAT'LL SHOW 'EM!" Which seems rather bizarre to me, but I suppose it's possible.

So yeah, sibling bickering doesn't count. I did plenty of that myself (well, when my brother wasn't around to keep the peace.)

But thanks for trying!

Well one my brother once grabbed my stepmothers bags and put them outside after she arrived for the weekend. Let's just say several of us had no big liking for her

Well that and putting music too loud, getting in trouble at school, sharing a joint with friends.

Most of the kids I know (I'm a fake auntie to lots of teens) will do stuff like get tatoos or piercings, dye their hair with patches of blue or fushcia, or get it cut in some outrageous style. Some will insist on dressing strangely. I'm not sure that drinking and doing drugs constitutes "rebellion," per se, but those are certainly problems for a lot of kids, and at a much younger age than you might think. Ditto sex. Some things never change ;-)

Edit: There's been quite an alarming trend in eating disorders and self-mutilation for years now. That also isn't rebellion, but it's often perceived as such by clueless parents. These are very complicated issues and you probably don;t want to go there.

Yet another edit: I didn't mean to leave out piling into somebody's car and disappearing for an alarmingly long time and coming home looking like God-knows-what happened. With any lluck, it won't involve pregnancy, an STD, or a court date.

Awesome! So many things I never thought of! Wow...you are a wellspring of useful information.

Feel free to reply even more if you think of other things, haha...in case you wanted to edit again. ;)

Cool, I will think on all these things and see what I can come up with...

Cool...thanks!

Well, obviously you've rebelled more than I have...seeing as how I have to ASK in the first place.

Well, part of my problem is that it doesn't count as rebelling if your parents are cool with it. :P

I didn't really rebel - I grew up in the ass-end of nowhere, and neither of my folks were around all that much, so it wasn't really an option - but my older sister moved out on her own when she was fifteen and wound up pregnant by seventeen, married (and divorced) by twenty, and had all three of her kids within a 26-month stretch. She also tended to think that stealing Mom's smokes was cool, that Dad's booze was free for the taking, and that I enjoyed being locked in the closet for hours on end (her idea of babysitting).

...sounds like a joy to live with.

I suppose my older sister attempted to rebel, but due to the parents not really caring all that much, I think it just ended up frustrating her.

Bad me to comment so late, but I FELT the need.. er, urge. Or something. :D

Alchohal is a BIG one as far as rebellion goes amongst teenagers; that is, if you're looking for the harmless rebelion that's really just a call for attention or a, 'Fuck you, Mom and Dad.' In Japan, every kid out of JR high, or even IN JR high smoke their lungs and lives away. Normal smoking, not drugs. Drugs are waaay too illegal in Japan for them to want to risk it.
Running away for a day or so is another big one I've seen a few kids do. Or going out at night and trashing someone's car, stealing from the mall, going out late and staying out all night, going to a rave, partying all night long, driving drunk, highjacking a car, 'borrowing' daddy's car...

Okay, so I'm a bad girl. -looks defensive- LOL
No, I haven't done ALL of those; just heard stories and seen most of them. ;D

I was just somewhere in the 'smoking-drinking-FUCKYOUMOMANDDAD' section. Still am, rather.

Too much information? :P

Awwww, it happens! :D Good for you, not getting into trouble. Oer... something. :P
You didn't miss out on much, I'm sure. Doing shit underage is overrated anyway.

...I don't even know if I believe any of the above. HA! Oh well... ignore me. Hope I helped some, in any case.

Oh, I've gotten up to plenty of things that other people's parents would consider "trouble"...just not my own. It's hard to rebel when everything you want to do is allowed...or at least, you are never specifically told that it isn't (either before or after you've done it).

:-P
