I watched the lunar eclipse tonight. It was very cool and cold. I had wanted to try out my new tripod and take a few pictures, but was dismayed to find that the batteries in my good camera were dead. Since they were Lithium batteries, I couldn't just turn to my substantial stash of double As to save the day. My little digital of course was not meant for moon pictures, and wasn't even worth trying out. Instead I stood on the back porch and enjoyed the weird sort of darkness under the reddish moon. I picked out Orion and wondered if the flickering planet I was seeing was Venus or Mars or whether I was completely wrong and it wasn't flickering at all.
Sherrie gave me (well, Driftwood Dragons) an E for Excellent today over at her blog. The meme there is to give an E for Excellent to 10 of your favorite blogs. It occurred to me that I probably don't read ten blogs, so it'd sort of be a pointless exercise, as I would have to name every blog I read. So...umm, let's see. I read Sherrie's blog with I've already linked to. I read Sherrie's other blog too. Then there are the people on my friend's list here at LJ, who you can see by clicking on the little "Friends" link on the side there and ignoring the BoingBoing and GreatPoets feeds. Then there are my sister's blogs over at Myspace and my brother's picture of the week. That's basically it. There are a few others that I read every once in a while, but I don't really feel like tracking down the links...so, yeah.
There's another meme going around where you take your 15 favorite movies, get quotes from them, and then have people guess what movie it is. So, I've done that below. What I discovered was that it is very hard for me to think of 15 movies that I would consider favorites. So, these aren't in any sort of order, they are quite literally the movies that I could remember liking. I'm sure there are far more, or even some movies that I like better than the ones on this list, and I'm sure I'll think of them later and kick myself.
So, there are the quotes. If you know the movie, comment, though no one ever really comments...so... if you, like many of my family and friends, do not like commenting, then simply guess in your head and never tell me what you think it is - that way, no one will ever know, not even I, whether you are right or wrong.
Oh yeah, just a tip: Not all these movies are actually in English. Some of those quotes are translated.

The Game:
Think of 15 movies
Go on IMDB and get quotes from the movies
Have people guess the movie! When someone guesses, list the movie next to the quote.
1. It's not that bad... Well, I'm not saying I'd like to build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely.
2. (IMDB didn't have any quotes for this particularly lovely movie, so these two are off the top of my head)
a. Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms! Dostoevsky, The Idiot! THE IDIOT!
b.
-Sprechen sie Deutsch?
-Hitler ist kaputt
-We're not going to get very far if that's all you know.
3. Well, technically speaking, the operation is brain damage, but it's on a par with a night of heavy drinking. Nothing you'll miss.
4. Who knows where thoughts come from? They just appear.
5. To the winch, wench. THE NEVERENDING STORY
6.
-We set out to change the world... ended up just changing ourselves.
-What's wrong with that?
-Nothing, if you don't look at the world.
7. Sure. Hey man, all I did was cut his bulk mescaline for street sale and neglect to pay him. Chris, on the other hand, crushed his head with a curling rock.
8. (This was the ONLY quote IMDB had)
I like Mark Twain. You know what else he said? "Faith is believing something you know isn't true."
9. The ball is round, a game lasts 90 minutes, everything else is pure theory. Off we go!
10. It's my best production ever. A pity your Mom will be the only audience...
11. A man writes because he is tormented, because he doubts. He needs to constantly prove to himself and the others that he's worth something. And if I know for sure that I'm a genius? Why write then? What the hell for? STALKER
12. (IMDB didn't have my favorite quote and I refused to put any other quote they did have, so this one is also from my memory banks and not IMDB)
-Anyway, I'm sorry I had sex with you. I know it wasn't your idea.
-Whose idea was it? JUNO
13.
-If you want, I'll show you me fanny.
-Nah, I'm all right.
14. They have to paint me red before they chop me. It's a different religion from ours. I think.
15. I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend.
