Writer meme
Jan. 15th, 2008 06:27 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I stole this from
vonandmoggy. Obviously, I am not feeling too inspired these days when it comes to what to write in this journal! Anyway, hopefully that will pass. I am closer than ever to starting my job, so in the coming weeks hopefully I'll be busier and therefore more productive.
Instead of sleeping last night, I answered all these questions, and then thought "man, I really should try the novel thing again." Then I read through all the parts of the novel that I had written back in the day, and realized that I really only like two of the written sections, and one of them needs to be edited quite badly. Ah well.

What's the last thing you wrote?
A little piece about different kinds of heartbreak.
Was it any good?
Sherrie liked it.
What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
When I was 9, (as soon as I learned to read) I wrote a story about a snowflake.
Was it any good?
It was genius, but that's just my opinion.
Write poetry?
Yes.
Angsty poetry?
Probably.
Favourite genre of writing?
Fiction, autobiography
Most fun character you ever wrote?
I liked writing the girl in my little piece "By The Sea"
Most annoying character you ever wrote?
Any of the characters that I try to keep genderless. You can find these in "The Search" and "The Wood Carving". It's not that the characters themselves are annoying, it's that it is very hard to avoid gender or names.
Best plot you ever wrote?
Hmm, the most intense plot was the original one for my novel...seven main characters, all horribly scarred by their pasts.
Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
Good question. I have no clue. I don't really know what qualifies as a twist.
How often do you get writer's block?
Every day.
How do you fix it?
I don't. I either give up or I keep going.
Write fan fiction?
Only in my head.
Do you type or write by hand?
I type most things, but write by hand when I get ideas in bed...which happens fairly frequently. Bed is a good place to think.
Do you save everything you write?
I try, yes. I did delete a few old poems I didn't like though.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
Sometimes. Sometimes I've forgotten about it and it feels like new.
What's your favourite thing that you've written?
Probably "The Search" though I also love the poem I wrote about waking up to a thunderstorm at Gabe's house...oh, and the other poem I wrote about what sort of romances I like. I'd like to figure out how to expand "The Search" into a longer work, but then I run into the trouble of having genderless main characters and how to keep them that way...plus, it would lose the sort of rushed poetic feel that I wanted it to have.
What's everyone else's favourite thing that you've written?
I don't know! Sherrie likes most everything, Gabe likes the first verse of "The Man Painted Blue" (which is only four lines long)...Mum liked "By the Sea"...I don't really take votes on them all.
Do you even show people your work?
I'll post part or all of it on LJ. Certain elite few get to view the stuff that I don't feel is fit for the public.
Who's your favourite constructive critic?
Hm, probably Susan.
Do you have a web site for your writings?
Nope, unless LJ counts.
Did you ever write a novel?
Tried to back in HS.
Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
Nope, though it depends how you define fantasy and sci-fi.
Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
No...my novel was pretty angsty I guess, and I came up with the idea when I was a teen, but it wasn't about ROMANCE and all that crap, it was about scars and trying not to die.
What's your favourite setting for your characters?
I usually like them isolated, the constant Other that I am.
What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
Horror.
How many writing projects are you working on right now?
None, unless you count the unfinished novel or the academic article.
Do you want to write for a living?
It'd be nice, but I don't think I have the discipline.
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
Nope.
Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Nope.
Ever written something in script or play format?
No, unless you count the little plays Gabe and I write to each other in chats.
What are your five favourite words?
Lovely, genau, zusammen, wench, moor (you didn't say what language, and I'd say these are five OF my favorite words...there are more, and I don't rank them.)
Do you ever parody?
No.
What's your favourite thing to parody?
See above.
Do you actually like that thing, or are you spitefully making fun of it?
See above and above.
Do you ever write based on yourself?
Anything anyone writes is a reflection of themselves in one way or another.
What character that you've written most resembles yourself?
They all do in one way or another...but, I guess the top is Charlie from my unfinished novel, and the narrator of the "The Search"
Where do you get ideas for your other characters?
Different aspects of my own personality, or different aspects of my friends' personalities.
Do you ever write based on your dreams?
All the time.
Do you favour happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
Bittersweet.
Have you ever written based on an artwork you've seen?
Not that I can recall.
Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Yes, I can't not be.
Ever write something entirely in chatspeak? (How r u?)
Lord no, I would have to kill myself.
Entirely in L337?
No, I am not a haxor.
Was that question completely appalling and un-writer like?
Yes.
Does music help you write?
It can help me come up with ideas, but I can't write while someone is singing.
Do you have a weblog or livejournal?
No. :P
Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
No, no one cares.
Quote something you've written. The first thing to pop into your mind.
"He did not want to die, but perhaps it would be possible to bleed himself into someone new, someone who would not have to live with the constant taint of guilt on his soul. Someone who would not remember Vincent. If he just bleed until the part of him that was capable of love was bled away, perhaps then he would have bled enough to stop the pain. But he did not want to die, just bleed until his suffering ended - to suffer until it was not possible to suffer anymore."
How's that for angsty!
A little piece about different kinds of heartbreak.

Sherrie liked it.
