It's Dean's birthday! Happy 34th Birthday, Dean! (or is that 74th? Or is that 33/73, because that year didn't exist? Or should I be wishing you a happy 33/73, because that year did exist, and I'm a year behind?)

I've never done a post like this for Dean's birthday, because, as you'll see, what the Winchesters are doing in January is always really hard to pin down. I gave it my best shot though! (as always, all dates are taken from my timeline)

For the purposes of my sanity, I am following actual chronological time, and therefore including the year that Dean spent with Lisa.

*SPOILERS FOR CURRENT (AIRED) SEASON!*

January 24th

1979 - Dean Winchester is born.

1984 - Jessica Moore is born. Elsewhere, Dean quietly turns 5.

1990 - At some pont in January, John investigates a series of grave robbings in Windom, Minnesota. He hooks up with a nurse. Hopefully, he does not miss Dean's birthday. Dean turns 11.

2006 - It's the first time Sam's been around for Dean's birthday in four years! Hopefully they do something special...even though Sam's probably sad because it's his dead girlfriend's birthday too. Dean turns 27.

2007 - I'm hoping that Dean's birthday falls between putting Father Gregory's soul to rest in in Providence, Rhode Island, and Sam getting possessed and thus disappearing for over a week. Dean turns 28.

2008 - Dean doesn't get to celebrate his birthday over 100 times, so it either falls before or after Mystery Spot. My guess is before. I'm not sure if one celebrates their last birthday or quietly ignores it though. Dean turns 29.

2009 - Dean is probably still recovering from being beaten severely by Alistair, not to mention recovering from the news that he unknowingly broke the first seal to free Lucifer. Dean turns 30 (although his soul is now 70 years old).

2010 - Dean may have just escaped from a mental institution, or he may have just spent 24 hours with some teenage kid in Sam's body, or he may have just traveled back in time to save his parents' lives. In any case, I hope that Sam treated him to some pie. Dean turns 31.

2011 - Dean turns 32 at Lisa and Ben's house. Elsewhere, Sam is hunting without his soul.

2012 - There's a good possibility that Dean celebrates his 33rd birthday with a newly resouled Sammy. They may have just slain a dragon and rescued some virgins too.

2013 - Bobby possibly dies very very close to Dean's 34th birthday. I'm going to go ahead and hope that maybe Dean, Sam, and Bobby all celebrated Dean's birthday just before going on the hunt in the woods of New Jersey. There is, however, a possibility that Bobby died just before Dean's birthday.

Well, Dean, you haven't had the most joyous of birthdays in the past...but I want you to know that I lov-

...jerk.

DEAN! woot woot woot \o/

I just had a flash of inspiration as to what happened to that mysterious year: CASTIEL ZAPPED IT. D:

Freakin Angels and their timey wimey meddling.

Thankfully the fandom in south-east Asia and Australia reminded me as I was going to bed last night (thank goodness for time-zones!)

The Doctor must be pretty annoyed at those Freakin' Angels meddling with time like that...(me and claudiapriscus are both sitting on unfinished/unwritten cracky crossovers that attempt to explain the missing year.)

Love to read your timeline updates, and this day in history updates are great!

I like that you said - the year that was forgotten, we really don't know the dates for the year due to the year that wasn't but it's been an interesting journey.

Question did you read "One Year Gone" yet? That story had some interesting information in it (especially History wise) of things in the Campbell/Winchester past.

Thank you again!

I haven't read One Year Gone yet. I don't usually read the tie-in novels - nor do I include the information from them in my timeline (though, I HAVE read John Winchester's Journal and Bobby's Guide to Hunting). I don't include the information though, because I find that the novelists tend to not have done their homework - or the writers of the show don't read the tie-in novels, and the show and the novels contradict each other. So, yeah... I tend to only focus on the show when I timeline. The novels are good fun, but I treat them like legal fanfiction.

I'm glad you are enjoying the posts!! :)

I understand not taking the writers of the tie in novels as necessarily accurate. This one had background into the Campbell timeline and it was very interesting, seemed like Rebecca Dessertine had a lot of things that kept the timeline accurate. What I was refering to was the Campbell tie in to the past, it's very interesting.

I understand not reading them - this is the first tie in that I have and read. Figured I had to read at least one of them for all the Fan Fiction I was reading. Thank you again!

Yeah, it's tempting to include some information - such as the dates about Sam and Dean's childhood in John's Journal...or Bobby's backstory. But I have to draw the line somewhere - and the show gives me enough conflicting information on it's own. :P

Awww, there's nothing wrong with you. When I was writing it up, I got to 2009 and was like "good god...it's no wonder Dean's a half-suicidal alcoholic."

Love the timelines. Yea, Dean's birthdays haven't always been rosey in the past. But we remember him and love him, even if he may not. This was great.

I'm sure Sam tries to make Dean's birthdays as great as they can possibly be.

Glad you liked the post! :)

Awwwwww. This just proves that Sam has serious competition in the "sucky birthdays" department. *sends Dean some pie because he obviously needs it*

The ones that make me saddest are 1984, 1990, and 2009. For some reason I felt Dean needed Sam to recognize his birthday the most in S4. Mainly because he's back from Hell and pretty much everything that goes with it. Although I'm very fairly sure Lisa had pie and a gift for him on his 32nd birthday.

Date: 2012-01-24 05:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
Yes, both Winchesters win "sucky birthday" awards...it's really not a happy thing to win. :P

I'm sure Lisa had pie and a gift for Dean...if he TOLD her when his birthday was. Hopefully she was sneaky enough and found out.

Date: 2012-01-24 06:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nwspaprtaxis.livejournal.com
That's true about Dean maybe not telling Lisa but my feeling is that Lisa's the sort who would be all "EVERYBODY has a birthday..." and be all sneaky and found out - whether it was going through Dean's wallet and looking at his ID for clues or maybe even making Ben poke at Dean until Dean told the kid. But yes, it's my headcanon she knew and that she totally had pie and a gift. She wouldn't make it an all-out party but just the three of them with pie for dessert after dinner and having one hell of a yogic-sex session later, yeah, I can see it happening.

But poor Winchesters. Sucky Birthday Awards are not a happy thing to win. I've given up comparing who has it suckier. Both of their birthdays suck on different levels. Sam, though, might just edge out Dean if only because everyone dies on his birthday.

Sam, though, might just edge out Dean if only because everyone dies on his birthday.

Including him!

I had a cat die on my 11th birthday. That was pretty sucky...but yeah, that doesn't even measure on the same scale as the Winchester's birthdays.

I like your headcanon for Lisa :)

Date: 2012-01-24 06:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nwspaprtaxis.livejournal.com
HEE! That's what I thought of. Poor Sam. Dying on your own birthday has got to suck. As well as having your brother die on your birthday...

Aw. I'm sorry about your cat. *hugs* that doesn't make a good birthday. I once had a refrigerator die on my birthday. But, yeah, that's not even a blip on the Winchester scale.

Lisa is kind of awesome in my headcanon. I love that woman.

Well, in fairness, Sam gets all the sadness too...but yeah, poor Winchesters... maybe sadness is a finite resource and they are using up the world's supply so that the rest of us can be happy. :P

LOL True. Their lives are just...really, really dreary. It reminds me of a quote that keeps getting repeated in another show I watch(White Collar), basically saying that your happy ending depends on where you stop the story, and, boy, is that true for the Winchesters.

Aww thank you for this <3 and also thanks Eric Kripke for giving us this amazing character. Happy Birthday Dean Winchester.

Also one thing I'm still confused about is the year. Is the show is in 2013 or 2012?

Date: 2012-01-24 09:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
You're welcome! :)

According to the show, they are in 2012. According to the logical progression of time, they are in 2013.

Basically, what happened was that between S5 and S6 a year passed, but Supernatural is so used to setting their story in the current year, that the writers didn't adjust accordingly. So, S5 ended around May 2010, ONE YEAR PASSES, and we pick up S6 a year later in...2010 - make sense? No, of course not... because apparently I'm the only one who pays any attention to the timeline. Basically, in the Supernatural universe 2010 happened twice. :P

Aw this is rather depressing really - especially this "Dean turns 30 (although his soul is now 70 years old)." Sam's soul is even older than that now too...

Date: 2012-01-24 09:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
Indeed, if time passes the same in the cage as in Hell, than Sam's soul is around 210 years old. 180 of those years being spent in agony and torture.

So, yes...rather depressing really.

That is so awesome! I especially loved the hilarious use of the No-Chick-Flicks-Moments cap.

One has to hope that when they are off-camera they are having a few nice moments to at least let them forget all the tragic ones for a bit. We only see little hints of these: Stargazing atop the Impala, corner-gas-store Christmases, driving cross-country to an Ozzy concert, sacred annual pilgrimages to Vegas, Chuck Norris and licorice movie nights. But it gives me hope there are more, and that once in a while Dean they get to celebrate a birthday, albeit in their own meagerly scavenged kinda way.

Date: 2012-01-24 09:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hells-half-acre.livejournal.com
Yes, I hope so too. I wish we could see a little more of those quiet non-hunting moments...but I guess they don't make for good dramatic TV (*I'd* still watch though).

I'm glad you like the cap I chose. ;)
