Merlin: The Gayest Show I Have Ever Seen

I had heard the magic=homosexuality metaphor floated for Harry Potter before in my life, but didn't quite buy it with that series...if it had been associated with Merlin, however, I would have wholeheartedly agreed. I'm not quite done the first season, but so far all I see is a show about a gay boy who has to hide the fact that he's gay because you aren't allowed to be gay in the kingdom.

Anyway, I'm loving it.

In other news, my internet keeps cutting out and is annoying...I'm also heading down to Seattle for the next few days, so I won't be around. :)

Thanks for the welcome! I blame tumblr...I kept seeing all these gifs...

I just have one episode left of S1, which I'll probably watch right now. Then hopefully my internet will start working properly again and I can get S2. I'm, of course, horribly spoiled for S4 - but I don't mind. Knowing what's coming means that I can watch it without getting nervous (not that it's a very nerve-wracking show to begin with, which is probably part of the reason I like it.)

Season 1, in my opinion was brilliant. Season 2, well they had a few hickups there..., season 3 rocked and season 4 just blew my mind away. I've got a few complaints, no one is ever totally happy, but overall this is by far the best show and it just keeps being adorable...

I do think though the love triangle, chemistry wise between the actors, should have been between Arthur, Merlin and Lancelot because as much as I like Gwen, her and poor Arthur just don't have a spark. They are excellent actors, both of them but you know, that certain spark isn't there...

But hey, Merlin and Arthur have enough spark for me! And you know, how in the beginning of the show, it says...rests on the shoulders of a young boy? In season 4 they upgraded Merlin to...rests on the shoulders of a young man...and I've been giggling ever since then becasue what could Merlin possibly have done (hopefully with Arthur) which upgraded him from boy to man? *giggle*

I agree, there is very little 'chemistry' between Arthur and Gwen; I always get more of a sibling type vibe between them rather than one of romantic passion. And it's no fault of the actress playing Gwen that she just annoys me; she happens to resemble a rl coworker of mine who irritates me, ha, and every time I see Gwen on screen I automatically overlay her with the smug, condescending personality my coworker possesses and it is hard for me not to transfer my antipathy for my coworker onto this actress who resembles her. Irrational, I know, but it does ruin my 'Gwen experience' as far as this actress goes, ha. I find myself sighing, if only it was a DIFFERENT actress, not just because of my weird personal transference deal but because maybe another actress would have more inherent chemistry with Bradley. I'm with the whole Arthur/Merlin/Lancelot thing, ha; some of my online friends prefer Merlin/Gwaine, as well, or Merlin/Arthur/Gwaine!

Gwen is fine but I still think they should have looked for that spark when casting. I mean Arthur has spark with Morgana even and she is supposed to be his sister...but Gwen...just not...

I like Merlin / Gwaine too but my fav will always be Lancelot...after Arthur of course...what I like about Lance is how he is Merlin's friend first. Gwaine is Merlin's friend too but he doesn't know about the magic and I get the impression if pushed, he might choose to serve Arthur. Lance has proven over and over that he would pick Merlin first. He is also the only one who continously worries about Merlin...I so like him!

I really like Lancelot too, and I've only seen him in the one episode...but I like him for all the same reasons you do. :) I haven't met Gwaine yet.

Yes, Merlin was upgraded...it happened right with season 4 and for the first few minutes of the first episode all I could do was giggle because my mind went to naughty places...at once!

And you will love Gwaine, he is a rascal! Adorable and like 100% different than composed, loyal and moral Lancelot... :)

Oh man, I totally understand. I get annoyed by anyone with the name Chelsea - it doesn't matter what their personality is. (My apologies if you happen to be named Chelsea)...I was just so turned off by that name due to the first person I met with it. Even the geographical region turns me off now.

Ha, nope, not named Chelsea, so I guess I'm safe! Funny how our brains make these irrational but stubbornly persistent connections between things sometimes and it's hard to let go of that almost visceral reaction to whatever it is.

Good to know about S2, I'll tough it out if I find my enjoyment lacking.

Yeah, so far, except for Merlin, Arthur doesn't have much chemistry with anyone. But much like you, that's enough for me - and, whether you read it as gay as I do or not, it's the central relationship of the series, no matter what pretty bird Arthur is kissing on the side.

Hahaha, Merlin was "upgraded"...nice....*giggle*
