Unmitigated Vid Disaster...

So... it looks like I've lost everything. 

I can open the project file in WMM, but the clips are now all blank. The song doesn't even play. I don't know what happened. Then WMM hangs.

But...but...that's ok...I'll just... I'll just start again.

It will be better the second time... it's not like I just wasted all that work, because I learned stuff...and I've got some of the files that I need. It's not like I wasted my whole weekend at all, really, when you think really hard about it...

I'm just a little sad, that's all....because I did put a lot of work into it....and I had a whole minute done, and it was awesome... 

The good news is that I've got tickets to see Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer tonight, so they'll cheer me up.

Sorry for the horribly depressing 'misadventures in vidding' spam today. :(

I don't know! It was all fine, and then suddenly it wasn't.

I will no doubt to a post about Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer when I get home...so, that you can be even more jealous. ;)

Maybe keep trying? Like, sometimes I have programmes that just won't work. And then, cliched as it sounds, I turn it off and then on again and it's all fine. I'll hope that that's what happens for you. ANd yu'll come home from Gaiman and Palmer and all will be well.

I already tried rebooting the machine and opening the file again. My only hope is that for some reason, it'll change its mind tomorrow.

At least now I've learned that obviously I should save my work in a new file every step of the way, so that if this happens again, I can just revert to an earlier save.

And thanks ;) I've gotten all dressed up for the event (that means a nice shirt, my good jeans, and make-up)!

So sorry to hear of your troubles, Alix. :(

What seems to be the problem? I know when I used to use WMM, it would crash on me at will, but I googled my problem & found others had the same issue, downloaded & installed a fix for it and then things were fine.

It helps to make sure you're saving your work along the way. Something works and you like it? Save it. I believe WMM has an auto-save feature, but I learned not to trust that.

I don't know what happened! I was working on it, and then I thought I would stop for a bit. I saved and exited the program. Then I decided 10 minutes later that I DID want to keep working, so I reopened the program...

And the file would load, but all the clips were blank, and the song wouldn't even play...then it'd start taking up all my CPU power while it did...nothing. So, I would try to open a "new project" to see if it would recognize NEW clips, and the program would hang.

It sucks. I suppose I should go look for a fix-it or something...but, sigh...that just seems like more time to be searching the internet and fiddling around with things that I don't know about, and I think I'm tired of doing that for a while.

I was saving my work along the way, but it doesn't seem to matter. I suppose I should have been saving it in a series of different files in the hopes that WMM would read ONE of them.

Anyway...frustrating.

That sounds similar to the problems I would have with the program. What version of Windows are you using?

Darn. If it had been Vista it probably would've been the same thing that effected me. *sigh*

Sorry I can't be of more help. All I can suggest is doing a Google search and see if anything similar bubbles up.

Sorry about all the vid issues. There's something so frustrating about trying to work on a project, and discovering that in order to do the one simple thing you wanted to do, you have to learn everything there is to know about seven different pieces of software. AARGH! WHY CAN'T THEY JUST MAKE IT EASY?!
