Unanswered SPN Questions

My job is currently giving me motion sickness, so I thought I would take a short break and post something. Really, I just need an excuse to look at something that is staying in one place. So, here is a couple of SPN things that I often wonder about, but have never been explained in the show.

1) What is the significance behind A) Sam's bracelet, and B) Dean's silver ring.

I was really happy when they explained Dean's pendant/amulet in A Supernatural Christmas - one of my favorite episodes ever. I'm hoping they do similar treatments to the other few personal items the boys have, but maybe we won't ever know.

2) Why did Dean come back to Sam's place at the end of the Pilot? How did he know Sam needed him? Sam didn't even know what was going on and he was at the epi-centre, what caused Dean to come back?

I doubt we'll ever get an answer to that one. I like to think it was a brotherly spidey-sense. Or maybe he was just coming back to say "Dude, it's late, can I sleep on your couch instead of getting a motel room?" ...who knows.

Anyway, if you have any thoughts, let me know. 

Also, besides my potentially horrible cracky HP/SPN crossover. I've got no fic ideas. So, if there is anything you think I should write about, let me know that too.

I think Dean started wearing a bracelet too. It's noticeable in S4 anyway. I don't know what gives with these personal affects, but they must mean something because they wear them in every episode.

I think Dean really wasn't ok with just leaving Sam behind. Although he pulled away from the curb while Sam was watching, I think he actually circled the block and came back. I don't think he'd have asked to stay the night, on account of Jess, and it making him appear needy. But I wonder if he would have sat outside the house for a few hours pulling himself together before he mustered the fortitude to drive away.

What alerted him to the goings on? I don't know. Maybe he heard Sam screaming, or yeah, his winchester sense was tingling.

Hmm...the plot thickens. I'll have to keep an eye out for possible Dean-bracelet, because I didn't notice. I just figure these things must have particular meaning, because they are in fact the ONLY personal items the boys have. And when Dean died, Sam took the amulet, but he left the ring. Mind you, Dean's been wearing it so long, maybe Sam just couldn't get it off :P

I like your idea that Dean didn't really drive away. I think, since I'm never going to get an official explanation, I'll pretend that is it. And yeah, you are right, I doubt he would have asked to spend the night - that was just me grasping at straws...but it makes more sense that he was just circling around the block, or hanging around outside, trying to get his thoughts together. It was probably Sam's screams that alerted him, but he would have had to have been right outside the door in order to hear them.

Well, probably the ring had significance to Dean, but not to Sam. The amulet was something shared between them. The ring may be something shared between Dean and someone else, unbeknownst to Sam. Perhaps it belonged to his mother, or was given to him by John?

Well, it was a quiet night on a quiet street. Perhaps the windows were rolled down, and Dean heard a muffled shout. There wasn't much time between Sam shouting and Dean appearing, though, so he must have really hauled ass to get there so fast!

As for writing about something...why not come up with a reasoning behind some of the personal affects? I imagine that the Sam bracelet, which is basically just a black strip, is something to remember Dean by when he went to college. I bet it's something Dean doesn't even know about. Like one day they were doing something, and that was a strip of...I don't know what, leftover from some activity Dean was doing. And maybe Sam picked it up and kept it because it reminded him of Dean.

I actually read a fanfic similar to that the other week (I wish I could remember where), and that was what got me thinking about the bracelet in the first place...before then, I hadn't actually noticed that Sam also had a consistent personal item. Anyway, the fic was really sweet. Maybe I'll try to think of another spin on it.
