I got my Singer Salvage shirt today!

YAY!

Check it out:

(Please excuse the absolutely filthy bathroom mirror. No one knows how to clean around here)

ETA: You can still buy the shirt over at redbubble: http://www.redbubble.com/people/heartjack/t-shirts/7224442-singer-salvage

Yay! Haha, does it wash ok? I always worry about washing my favourite clothes too much...like it'll damage them or something. Maybe I'm crazy. I've got one sweater that I only ever "air out."

I was more worried about it shrinking since I don't have much wiggle room on the size. The colors look fine but we wash the colors in cold so they don't fade as quickly. If you wanna be extra super paranoid, I suggest the detergent they make especially for dark colors. They do exist. ;D I wish I had told him to let this one hang dry so I wouldn't have to worry about the shrinkage but I didn't know he had grabbed it to clean with my uniforms.

We're not crazy with this shirt. It's not like we can reorder it if something happens to it.

True, we aren't crazy at all! I always hang dry and wash in cold. Unfortunately allergies to laundry detergents run in my family, so even though I've never tested myself with different detergents, by default I always use the crazy eco-friendly no-scent no-everything detergents. I'm not those come in special dark colour detergents.

Sometimes I think we'd be better beating our clothes against rocks, like they used to do in the old days. :P

I feel you on the allergies. I'm allergic to color bleach. WTH body?
There is some Woolite for dark colors you could try. It's pretty good with people with detergent allergies. Or if you're not allergic to Cheer, they have one.

We totally would be better off if our clothes could withstand the beatings. They aren't made as well anymore. lol

lol, good point!

I'll look for the woolite. I wear a lot of dark clothes. I think I may have dodged that particular allergy, but I can never be 100% sure because I've always stuck with the super allergy-friendly soaps. My sister is hyper sensitive to allergies though and I live with her, so it'll still have to pass being around her in order for me to use it. Last year she reacted to something and couldn't use her hands for a while - I'd like to avoid that again! It's sort of weird having to brush a 25 year-old's hair, cut up their food for them, and tuck them in at night...though, did think it'd make a great prompt for a h/c fic ;)

Well if worse comes to worse, you can always just use it in the sink for your special shirts. Good luck! And you're such a good sister. ♥

Also? That t-shirt is awesome.

BTW, you aren't alone in the allergy thing - I have to use free/clear no-ANYTHING detergent/soap/shampoo/everything too... I actually can't really use bleach so I use Borax or Baking Soda anyway. For some reason my skin's insanely sensitive and doesn't like even SCENTS added to the detergent.

Yeah, my mum and sisters are the same way. My mum breaks out in hives - it's rather horrible - so we all just stick with the detergent that she's good with, whether we ourselves are allergic or not. If you think about it, something that makes someone react that badly can't be good for you, regardless.

It's really annoying though that the detergent companies don't seem to understand that people are allergic to SCENTS too - sometimes there will be a brand that works really well for Mum, and then they'll come out with "now with fresh meadow scent!" and my mum won't be able to buy it anymore.

GAH!!!! I hate that! It's so true - like that's why I stick with the "Free & Clear" stuff... yes it's bland and scentless, but my skin can handle it. And I'm totally of the mind that if my body freaks out that badly, it can't have good stuff in it for you anyways. But yes, companies don't get that SCENTS are also included in the allergic-reaction thing. It's why I can't use anything that smells pretty for soap. Shampoos are okay to a certain degree because it's not skin-contact, but yeah. I have to stick with all the scent-free stuff.

Indeed! My aunt has a similar problem because she's allergic JUST to scents - perfumes and whatnot. They give her 3 day headaches. She can't walk through department stores.

The weird thing is, that she discovered when she traveled to Europe, that perfumes in Europe didn't bother her at all. She was really confused, so she looked it up. Apparently, Europe has much higher standards about what grade of chemicals can go in things - so basically, it's like perfume companies sell consumer-grade perfume to Europeans, and industrial-grade perfume to North Americans. Which, is kind of scary to me...I mean, there must be a REASON that Europe banned selling the lower-grade stuff to consumers!

GAH! That's actually kind of disturbing! I mean, I'm so with you on there being a *reason* for Europe not selling our grade stuff... *iz thankful she can't wear it anyways*

Hee. If it takes them that long to get the shirt shipped to Canada I guess I can stop sending paranoid messages to RIPT Apparel to make sure mine didn't get pushed out of the plane halfway across the Atlantic *is relieved and gets back to sitting in front of the mailbox*

Yeah, they sent an email a couple of weeks ago saying that some of the orders had gotten a bit skewed up in the postal system, but that they were on their way. Then Canada Post went on strike for a week...so, it's been a long wait...hopefully you'll get yours soon!

I saved the .jpg of the design, since it was a one-shot printing deal. I figured that maybe if I ever found one of those print-your-own t-shirt places, I could possibly get a replacement.

So, you could always get one yourself too! If YOU can find one of those print-your-own t-shirt places.

Haha, yeah, I WISH I had those kind of design skills. But yeah, just let me know if you ever want the jpg.

I did silk-screening when I was around 10 years-old, but I never graduated to more than a one-colour design.

How big is it? The.jpg that is.

The image dimensions are 483x393 pixels and the size of the file is 48KB. Not sure how big an image you need for those custom t-shirt places, but I just figured that anyone skilled enough at photoshop could get the image to the quality you'd need.

Champagne problems!

Hopefully the design will repeat somewhere at some point. I did save the .jpg though, on the off chance that if I wanted a replacement (or mine got lost in the mail), I could find one of those custom-tshirt-printing places and get one specially made for me. I'm not sure how those work, but I know one dude who got this awesome Calvin and Hobbes shirt made at one back in the 90s, so presumably, if they still exist, it might be possible.

Thank you!

I did keep a copy of the jpg that they had on the site, just in case in the future I found a custom t-shirt place that could make me a copy.

I actually found out about the shirt on tumblr (which I was only stalking at the time). I suppose I should have posted it here, and let more people know, but I'm just not used to announcing purchases :P

Jim Beaver also posted it on his facebook though - I think that's where a lot of people heard about it.

If it happens again, I'll be sure to post a note about it for those who are only on LJ. ;)
