Oh, fine, thanks for asking.

I've completed 5 fics from my prompt meme! Yay! I have another half of one written on my computer, that I'll probably finish up tomorrow after work. That will leave only 4 or 5 left to do (if I chose to do ever single one, but right now I'm thinking I might veto one or two, just because I can't come up with anything particular good for them).

I also got a bit carried away with one of them, and it took me two days to write and I ended up having to post it in 7 parts :-P ...that's what I get for attempting a triple-crossover/demented'verse with a fandom that I've never written in before.

Anyway, is the show back on yet? I'm bored. I've already watched my Sherlock DVDs, now I'm just twiddling my thumbs. I'm going to check out Being Human tonight, even though I don't like vampires...if any of you watch/ed it let me know what you thought in comments. I predict that I'll be mildly entertained for an hour, but not feel like making a habit of it....

Still don't know what to do with my life. I'm contemplating trying for editing again, rather than the film industry. I don't know.

Tomorrow I'm getting my eyes checked. Yay! Hopefully I can make it home alright afterwards. Also, hopefully, I'm not going blind or anything. It's a sad world that I have to spend my Christmas money on health-appointments, by the way - I was under the impression that I lived in Canada, but apparently the Canadian government doesn't view eye-health as a basic human right. Thanks guys.

ETA: BOO! 5 minutes in and my sister kicks me off the TV. I thought she was staying at her boy's house tonight. *heavy sigh*...to torrents!

The new version of being human doesn't seem to really do enough to differentiate it from the original to make it worthwhile. A straight 1-1 conversion is always going to be a bit lesser, if only because of things like, oh, the original used the setting to influence the execution...change the setting, the execution seems a bit arbitrary. (Bristol makes sense in the UK in a way New York definitely does not in the US).

But it was a first episode. There's still time for them to put their own spin on things, I guess.

I've never seen the original, so I guess that's a point in favour of me enjoying this version - since I don't have anything to measure it again.

I'll probably download next week's just see the conclusion of the story, but I doubt I'll keep watching it. It's too vampire-y...I realized why I don't like vampires while I was watching it: Everything with vampires always just ends up being political-intrigue, and political-intrigue is just not my thing.

The werewolf is the only slightly compelling character - but even that you can only do so much with.

You might like the original better. (I think the actors were more compelling, had better chemistry. And the guy playing the vampire is ridiculously good looking in a dark, smoldering way. With an Irish accent.) It had some of the vampire stuff, but mostly as a way to cause the vampire to do some more smoldering brooding.

Something that's kind of funny is that the American show includes the plot of the backdoor pilot of the original show. (Which the original show mostly followed, but after a lot of casting changes and some other revamps).

I heard the original was pretty soap-opera-y though? (this one might be too, but I'm not planning to watch it anyway.)

I'm not sure what you mean by "the plot of the backdoor pilot"...but, I'll take your word that it's kind of funny for them to follow it :P

Well, BBC3 did this whole thing where it released 3 made-for-tv movies, with the intent of turning one of them into a TV show...thus backdoor pilot. Being Human was the one that made it. But when they made it a TV show, they made it a bit soapier and changed the actors.

I wouldn't compare it directly to a soap opera, though, except to the extent that it's pretty intensely focused on the lives of the main characters, but... it doesn't have the melodrama I associate with soaps? Angsting, yes, but less than Supernatural. It's far from perfect, but it was kind of fun (I say, having watched it all over a long weekend). And it's only got 8 episodes a season, so that makes things easy.

Hmm, well, I'll keep it in mind should I find myself in need of entertainment. I think in the meantime, I'll just continue me "ugh, vampires" ways :P

The regular series, it pains me to admit. I loved the pilot.

Yeah, it's like me pushing Supernatural when I usually don't touch horror with a ten foot pole...though, Supernatural isn't REALLY horror, it's mostly just angst :P

(Plus, in the british show, there's a lot of nudity, and there's something weirdly endearing about George's jiggling bottom as he runs around looking for clothes. IDEK.)

George angst Like CRAZY. He's all, "why did this happen to me? I'm a MONSTER! I can NEVER HAVE A NORAML LIFE! NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ME!"


Actually....now that I think about it....he's kind of like a more emotionally expressive Sam.

And Mitchell (the vampire) is definitely more in the Dean line (though with Sam's little blood addiction thing), where he's got all this drama that he refuses to actually acknowledge and is plagued with guilt that he won't admit to. Because he's manfully brooding about it. Also, he nurses a secret desire for a family and a cute son to help fight off bullies and share his favorite, antiquated, pop culture with. This ends badly. (because of vampires! What a coincidence!)

I guess that'd make Annie Castiel, haha.
