Day 14 - Favorite male character

Since I can't possibly choose a favorite male character from Supernatural...

Orson from Record of Lodoss War

He's a berserker who is incapable of emotion. What's not to love?

Bonus subcatagory:
Favorite Male Harry Potter Character? - Draco Malfoy

As is often the case, the accidental antagonist turns out to be the most complex character, and therefore the most interesting (at least for me). Think about it, who's more interesting Naruto or Sasuke? Aang or Zuko? Harry or Draco?

We KNOW all of Harry's thoughts and feelings - the story is about him, we can see each thought as he has it...Draco is a conflicted mess, leading himself down a dark path because he was both raised to do so, and because he had his feelings hurt when he was eleven. Like Harry, he's in way over his head, but unlike Harry, he does not have the moral fortitude nor courage to pull himself out of the muck. Draco desperately needs someone to rescue him, but he's surrounded by people who would prefer to hold him under.

Don't get me wrong, Draco annoys the crap out of me every time he opens his mouth in the books - or, at least books 1-5 - but I absolutely love him in 6 and 7, when Rowling finally gives us a glimpse of what's behind the facade.

Damn, that Orson fellow is pretty! I'm tempted to watch Record of Lodoss War just for him!

ZUKO <3...dammit I do not have a Zuko icon! I'm so happy Zuko decided to go good in the end, would have been heartbroken if he ended up like Ozai, rotting in a cell =|

Second the Malfoy love. One of the things I love about Harry Potter is how secondary characters (that I initially thought insignificant) turned out to have their own stories and journeys and not just function as a plot device ^_^

Orson was my first love.

Record of Lodoss War is fun to watch...but just a warning though: In my upcoming answers in this meme, I'm going to have spoilers for Orson's storyline.

I love Zuko so much. I have some icons for him on my computer, but since my LJ is used pretty much solely for Supernatural related things, I don't have any uploaded. Sad...

Sokka: "Are you happy now?!"
Zuko: "I'm never happy."

And yes, I love that about Harry Potter too - you never quite knew which storylines were going to weave into Harry's story and which weren't, but pretty much every character had all their motivations and lives realistically thought out.

Haha, I love Sokka's lines - "I'm just the meat and sarcasm guy" xD - gah, A:TLA was such a brilliant series, pity it didn't have more seasons...

Yeah, I'm interested to see what M. Night does with the movie. I sort of wish someone else had picked up the rights, since M. Night isn't always consistent with quality (not to mention the whole race controversy he's managed to stir up).

As much as I wish there were more A:TLA, most of me is glad that it had a limited run and wrapped up so nicely - it really makes it an excellent non-watered down series.

I also like Iroh:
"You call this tea? This is nothing but hot leaf juice!"
"That's what tea is, Uncle."

To be honest, I'm ignoring the movie. I'm not happy with the casting (and why did they change Aang's arrow?) and from what I've seen of M.Night's movies, he doesn't seem like he can pull this off. That and I've heard rumors of how the show's original creators have distanced themselves from the movie and that just makes me nervous.

That's true, they didn't drag out the series and I suppose it had to end with Aang restoring balance.

Oh Iroh - I always end up sniffling when he and Zuko reconcile in the finale <3

I'm seeing the movie because I'm curious...but my hopes aren't that high.

I'm not AS harsh about the casting as most people are. Yes, I would have liked a Japanese Zuko...and I think he could have at least made Aang asian...but, I understand that it's hard to find Inuit people with martial art AND acting skills...I guess I've been trained by my parents to give people the benefit of the doubt. So, I'm going to see the movie before I complain about it.

That being said, I'm really hoping that the cheap theatre down the road plays it, so that I can see it for half the price of the regular cinema.

Well, it's not as Paramount even tried - the casting calls didn't even specify for Asian Americans, it just said Caucasian - I get the difficulty of finding an Inuit actor but there are plenty of Asian American actors plus I think the current cast will need training too - I've seen at least two (http://community.livejournal.com/ohpretty/6767.html) picspams (http://crossedwires.dreamwidth.org/204157.html) recasting Avatar so it could have been done. It's not that I don't like Dev Patel, he was fairly good in Slumdog Millionaire but as somebody else, he might have been better as Sokka.

"Caucasian or other" I believe they said...which, isn't exactly better.

But yeah, I agree with everything you said.
