Better late than never...
Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)
Answer: It's a tie! Modern Family and Glee
Modern Family
I like it, my sisters' like it, my best friend and his girlfriend like it, Tom Felton likes it...
I don't watch a lot of TV or pay attention to the entertainment industry - but hopefully lots of people like this show and it'll stick around for a while. It's sort of like a milder heartfelt version of Arrested Development (I really like mockumentary style comedies - it's probably why I liked Ghostfacers so much). It's not as hilarious as Arrested Development of course, but what it lacks in absolute ridiculousness, it makes up for in realism. I love how the teenagers actually look like teenagers and not 26 year olds with good skin.
Glee
It may be the "it" show right now, but I enjoy the heck out of it. It's cheesy and some of the teenagers are nearly 30, but at least once per episode there will be a line so snappy and hilarious that I don't even care. I love the different takes on pop songs, and how they've managed to do a musical without it turning into HSM. I've adored Jane Lynch since I saw Best In Show (did I mention I love mockumentaries?). I also love how they made sure to have a diverse cast. It's also a real treat to see some of America's Broadway talent. It's not like I can pop over to New York anytime I want - so having them sing hits of the 80s on TV is actually a treat for me.
Most of all though, I absolutely love Kurt's father. He makes me cry all the damn time.
As Dean says, "This whole industry runs on absent fathers" and really, my life is no different...which is why it's really really nice to see a GOOD father on TV for once. I really hope as the show continues that they don't ever turn him into a villain. So far, they've managed to keep him faulted, but fundamentally GOOD.
Anyway, I'll stop now before I ramble too much more.
