I don’t correct people’s spelling online, because it’s a casual non-academic platform and it’s not a big deal. But it’s also one of the few times I get to feel useful as a middle school English teacher. So since you asked – it’s “scour” and “algorithm.” :) I’m sure your investment there is minimal, but it made me feel happy to be of service.
As a Walking Dead viewer, I had a visceral reaction to the baseball bat – stunned, then excited, then weirdly guilty, because seeing it in Dean’s hands feels wrong wrong wrong even though I know they’re just trying to do a cute call-out to Walking Dead. That thing is a weapon of mass destruction, and killed one of my favorite characters on Walking Dead. But also, I love any time we mention Dad or call out to JDM. ALSO, did Dean say “Dad loved this thing” or “Dad would have loved this thing”? I’ve seen it capped different ways on different clips, but to me “Dad would have loved this thing” is like, okay, it’s a “cool” weapon I guess, Dean has a (weird) appreciation for that kind of thing (I think about “The Werther Project” when he gets a beer, machete still in hand, after killing all those vamps – I guess a barbed bat would be a mostly viable alternative for something like that). That one I can live with. But “Dad loved this thing” sounds kind of sadistic to me, considering that a bat wrapped in barbed wire is not a tool for killing things neatly, it is a tool for beating things to death in the most painful way possible. And I realize this is wayyyyyyy too much thought to put into a fun little tribute scene. In any case, I reacted! I’m guessing that’s what they were going for. ;) (My love for JDM and my hatred for Negan have led to a veryyyyyy conflicted viewing experience in Walking Dead, haha.)
