So, seeing as they are not on the same page here, this can't be the base for them to mend. They need to start at equal footing, and not with one of them saying "A" and the other understanding "Z".
Very good point! There is still work to be done.
And he'd have stopped fighting and just let Sam do what he wanted to do, back when it was Ruby who had him in his claws. Bobby read him the riot act then, and in that weird room with Zacharia, Dean chose to fight for Sam anyway. Sam doesn't know all this because he wasn't present, but I'm just saying that if Dean hasn't changed into an even more messed up person, there ARE limits for him. Maybe not anymore when there is no heaven... Hm.
Anyway, sorry for the rambling. I can't wait for the stupid winter-olympics to be over.
Same here.
You make a good point about how pulling back the curtain on the afterlife may have negatively affected Dean's ability to let Sam die. I've said this a billion times about the possible end of the series - that there IS no end, because we know heaven and hell now. Will the Winchesters go to heaven? Will they go to hell? Do heaven and hell even WANT them? I think part of the problem is that Dean knows that if Sam dies, he's not necessarily going to a "better" place - nor is he ceasing to exist completely (as atheist Dean would have believed back in the early seasons.)
It's a tricky thing to navigate.
But, technically, there IS still a heaven, it's just empty of angels... and Dean and Sam DO have friends up there, friends that Sam could find and hang out with. So, that option wouldn't be so bad... even if Dean doesn't like heaven that much himself.
