AH HAHahahahahaha... oh man, I had it so wrong. I kind of want to just leave it because I find it hilarious how badly I remembered it.
The only excuse I could find for his behavior is what someone said on tumblr, that maybe Sam's attitude is caused by the Mark of Cain which curses its wearer to be a lone wanderer without home or family.
