I'm (so not) sorry :D I actually didn't see that turn around coming myself. Weird what writing does to me. I guess my subconscious was trying to digest some comments from this past episode - there was a major discussion going on at Supernatural.TV about how Dean's feelings are so transparent while Sams are often so hard to see and how that wasn't fair to us or to Sam.
Anyway, I agree that it is totally natural for Sam to ask Dean how he is. Of course Dean's response is totally typical too. To me, it seems like Sam already knows Dean is going to blow him off - and he is asking Dean so he can get him off his back (and not have to tell him the truth) and Dean knows that too, so blah blah ... you know, they (should) know each other so well right?
But it could be that he felt Dean didn't trust him, as you say - considering the end of this season. It's just hard to accept. I have to put it down to his mental illness to make sense of it :P Hey! Maybe I can put Season 9 Sam reactions down to mental illness too... Gadreel did say it was a mess in there... *looking on the bright(?) side*
