I guess Tyler H could have looked as young as 18 in the first season--he certainly looked much younger in the first few episodes than he does now! But the stubble/beard he's got going now makes him look his age!
Tragic backstory only goes so far before it gets too crazy, and I think the addition of Paige kind of pushes it over the top. So because it's a "storyteller" episode, I've just decided to ignore its existence for my internal canon. :)
Is there anyone on the show that doesn't have a tragic backstory? Hmm. Derek - We won't even go into that. Stiles - mother's death. He seems to feel guilty for some reason. Scott - parent's divorce. (and I think it's canon that Scott lived with his dad for a bit and had to do something to end up back with mom.) Alison - Does being kept in the dark about the family business count as tragic? Isaac - abuse by dad, mother dead, brother dead Erica - health issues Boyd - vanishing sister Lydia - ??? Are her parents divorced as well? THat's never been clear, and we've actually seen both of them. Peter - Hale fire. I also thought it was canon that he had a wife and child die in the fire, but I'm not sure where I got that idea. We don't really have tragic backstories for the parents, but they've all lost someone, so I guess that could count.
I think we need someone happy and well-adjusted to hang out with the Beacon Hills crowd! They could use some help in that direction.
One other thing I wanted to mention about time that I just thought of watching episode 3.13 again. Jennifer/the Darach was originally Julia, Kali's emmisary, right? So if we follow the (ugh) flashback episode once again, she was probably Kali's right-hand woman then, which means that she was probably in her 20s ten years ago. So even though she apparently adopted a younger face to replace her scarred one, she had to be in her 30s; a contemporary of Kali, Ennis and Deucalion. So, once again, Derek apparently had a much older girlfriend manipulating him.

Like he needed that again.
