Yeah, assholes are unfortunately ubiquitous. I can see what you're saying, like maybe she meant, "hey, just imagine that plus kids and breathe a little easier," but it still sucks. Like saying, "hey, imagine all that plus cancer" isn't really a good way to cheer someone up, and two, it makes kids into a bad thing, which I don't think they are. hard work, sure, but not something that should be compared to a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
On the killing thing- yes exactly. How often do shows (and this show too) say things along those lines but then just kind of dispose of the one-off characters that they could have saved in order to bring another note of angst to the whole thing, so quickly forgotten? It completely undermines the message.
