I kind of think that Henry being uncurious and Sam not talking are linked - I kind of got the feeling that Henry was steamrolling the boys throughout the whole episode (much like John used to do) - as you say, because he judged them immediately to be "apes" and assumed that they didn't have any knowledge, when in fact they ARE the elitest of the elite in the Hunting world, and with the destruction of the Men of Letters, they're the next best thing... but Henry never took the time to realize that, because he was too busy assuming that he was the smartest in the room.
I'm with you on Cas - if something shady was going on with my best friend, I'd be focusing on that. But hey, maybe they were before Henry crashed through their closet. It just would have been nice to get a line about it.
