All this makes season 8's "I've dumped hunting forever" more odd. I hope they will explain this whole change in reaction to stress. Until now, Sam deals with stress by hunting and trying to save people and now he suddenly doesn't care? It bugs me right now.
Yes, I'm interested to see Sam's backstory in S8 too, because it does seem a little odd. Right now, the only thing I can figure is that it somehow made a difference that EVERYONE was gone - that maybe part of Sam snapped a little? I just don't know...I think there's definitely more to the story though, because Sam is very oddly passive about everything - whereas usually when he picks an opinion, he's quite passionate about it.
