Actually, though the Ash explanation is one possibility, I'd think there's a simpler sollution. Considering how many 'freaky' deaths would be considered almost funny or gruesomely interesting, there might actually be websites devoted to tracking stuff like that for people interested in that kind of stuff. And not nearly all of the people following those kind of sites would be hunters. (just check some of the lists on cracked)
