I don't think there's any possibility of that. He would have rescued Sam in his true form (unrecognizable) and also, Soulless!Sam didn't know, so souled!Sam wouldn't know either.
Also re: the hug - i wodner if Cas didn't go for the hug because he was secretly watching the Sam/Dean, Sam?bobby reunion hugs?

Sam will always bee the nerd for Dean, even though Dean knows about Hogwarts and Middle Earth!
