Indeed, dub-con is rape too. Mind you, I CAN read dub-con fics, depending how they are done. I can't read straight up 'non-con' fics at all. So, there is SOME distinction there, but I'm not sure it's one we should be making.
Anyway...
I was disappointed that Sam shot Samuel, mainly because I wanted a moment where Samuel realized that his grandsons were awesome and kind and he was a bastard for forsaking them - AND THEN I wanted him to die. But you know *shrug*.
I definitely think both Dean and Cas made mistakes in the friendship, but Cas blamed Dean for a lot of stuff that was actually completely Cas' fault. :P
See, I don't think Sam had time to read up on the latest news while in the cage. Although they often say that "the cage is in hell" - they also always talk about it as though it's a VERY separate place. Some demons didn't actually believe in Lucifer back in S3, and YED had to actively search out the door to the cage...if demons could just chat with the occupants of the cage, I'm pretty sure those things wouldn't have happened. Also, it's constantly been said that Sam (and Adam) are the ONLY source of entertainment for Michael and Lucifer while they are in the cage. So, again, that means there is absolutely no outside contact.
Plus, we know from 6x20 that Castiel got Sam out before he made the deal with Crowley. So, Sam being without soul really was just a screw up on Castiel's part.

All rather confusing.
