Funnily enough this episode has never really raised any controversial issues for me at least. I like the episode, I think it moves the main story arc along, and also shows some character development.
Watching it with what we know later on about Cas is quite interesting. At the time of viewing all I can think about was how badass everyone was, and how Crowley just managed to die so easily and would he please come back? Now, I can see the elaborate scheming that must have taken place so well that the boys (and us) were none the wiser until the grand plan was revealed.
As for the torture scene with Meg, well, Ruby was tortured by Alaistair as well right? On the episode with Anna? Didn't that scene implied the same thing? Was anyone outraged then? I can't remember.
