So, today I was helping my Mum clean out a closet at the cottage. There were old clothes of hers in there from the 70s, and I mean, really dated looks. It was quite hilarious. Unfortunately, most of the clothes had been chewed on or peed on by mice...so they went in the trash (which is just as well, because it's not like anyone would wear them these days). After we got the closet all clear, Mum thought it'd be a good idea to try to mouse-proof it, in the hopes that they wouldn't make nests in there again.

So, she looked up how to mouse-proof things on the internet, while I posted the next installment of my crossover story...and this is the narration that she gave ten minutes later from the room with the closet, while I was still typing away on LJ:

Mum: "They say that mice hate cayenne pepper. I'm allergic to cayenne pepper anyway, so I might as well use up my cayenne pepper in the closet..."

Me: "Uh huh, ok." *type type type*

Mum: "Ok, I've sprinkled some all over the floor. *pause* You know, I think I'll put a line along the entryway - a whole thick line of cayenne pepper. I bet that will keep them away."

Me: "Uh huh, sounds good" *type type type*

Mum: "They also said that mice don't like cloves. I'm going to stick some cloves in these small holes in the wallpaper."

Me: "Ok...yeah.... *type type....pause*...wait a second...let me see this!" *runs over to look at what Mum is doing*

Mum: "See! I don't think any mice are going to be hanging out in here anymore!"

Me: "Except for the chosen spices, this is eerily similar to this show I watch..."

I think the goofer dust was black. I remember the boys mistaking it for pepper.

My Mum: Protecting closets everywhere from mice and hell hounds :P
