Hahaha nah, I just had epic love for Sam since forever. I love Dean too, don't get me wrong but... Sam! I also think it's cos I can relate to him a little more (clearly because I too started an apocolypse). I don't have Dean's confidence so I just naturally gravitate towards Sam's character.
Come to think of it, you totally have a point. My unofficial middle name is Chepkamei and everyone loves that one (including me). It's Swahili (?) for "born in the rainy season". My sister is Cherobon, which is "born in the sunny season".
