Oh, I found another nail for your "screwed timeline" coffin. In the very beginning, just after the title card - they not only showed us the title saying it's 48h earlier, but also 150 years later.. 1861 + 150 = 2011.. So it might not have been just because it looks better than 151 years later, but actual 150 years in the future and then depending on that date situation - maybe 48h earlier making it 3rd March?
Later in of of your comment replies you write: "Samuel Colt didn't kill a Phoenix in 1861 without Sam around,[..] he just wrote that he did because Sam needed to see it in the future in order to know to come back."
And I am completely sure, that Colt actually never wrote that HE killed the Phoenix. He wrote that "gun" killed a phoenix. I would have thought that if he was the one holding the gun, he might have written something more, at least the fact that he was the one who did it.
Oh, we saw how 3 of the 13 bullets got used! And 5 were used in "our time".. So it's only 5 more we don't know, or we do?
When Castiel wakes up, there are jumper cables in the background - this, according to Guy Bee (the director) is because they CUT OUT A SCENE! I'm assuming that Castiel's heart stopped beating and Bobby used jumper cables as a defibrillator. I hope that you are right on that account, and that even if you aren't we still see that scene someday, somehow. Or at least learn what is going on there. But thanks for the info!
But I so love the fact that this is one those episode where you cant decide on one favourite part. As you name one - you think of another and another.. most of all I loved the fact that this was such an episode, where you are happy to let many strange things go (like that bit where Colt got name, date, address from a magic brick and that the package arrived). And are just happy with the boys and the wild west in the second half of 19th century..
