I completely forgot today was a holiday and did 3 hours of work before I realized. (This is a drawback of working from home - there is no one to put a sign on your office door saying "Dude! It's Victoria Day!")

Also, I had planned to do my grocery shopping today, but the grocery stores are closed! Thankfully, the drug store was open and they have a small food section - so I now have frozen pizza for dinner and something to eat for breakfast tomorrow. I also bought gummy bears. It all reminded me of living in Germany where everything is closed on Sunday except the gas stations. So if you run out of food on the wrong day, you have to figure out how to make a meal out of Coke and keks....good times.

Seriously, isn't Victoria Day supposed to be NEXT weekend? Whose bright idea was it to switch it up this year? Or maybe the month of May is to blame for starting on a Friday. Sigh...

In other news, I spent a half an hour weeding the lawn and the only difference is that now my back hurts. I think I'm definitely going to have to mow it tomorrow. I should buy myself some beer and sit on the porch afterward and freak out the neighbours by waving at them cheerily....or I can be honest and say that mowing the lawn does not bring me as much joy as it brings Dean Winchester. Seriously, if Dean Winchester wants to come over and mow my brother's lawn, I think that would be a far far better scenario than me doing it myself.

I've been reading [livejournal.com profile] hearseeno's multi-chapter Meta on the Siren and Winchester Family Dynamics, and she has two really great chapters on John Winchester. John the Man and John the Father.

I'm one of those people who usually gives John a really hard time, but as [livejournal.com profile] mizzykitty  continually points out to me, John isn't really that bad - he's actually pretty damn good all things considered. And seriously, I'm willing to admit that I'm a bit of a bitch to John and he doesn't deserve all the criticisms I've heaped on him over the past few months. It's true, he made mistakes, especially when it comes to Dean; however, much like Sam's mistakes in S4, they are understandable (actually, they are even MORE understandable than Sam's mistakes, because John wasn't nearly as messed up as Sam - though, in all fairness, one could partially blame John for how messed up Sam is).

Anyway! My point is, that [livejournal.com profile] hearseeno's Meta on John (and how he informs and created the Winchesters as we know them) is extremely spot on, in my opinion. [livejournal.com profile] hearseeno  manages to write about John without it seeming bias (at least not to me). John's mistakes are noted, but the reasoning behind them is so well explained that it's easy to understand why it is that John didn't see them as mistakes - even for someone like me who would much rather resent John than sympathize with him.

I apologize for not updating in over a month. Time escaped me. Everything has been very busy. My mother is moving house this summer, I am planning to move to Vancouver in the fall, My brother got married on May 9th....

My trip now seems like a distant memory. Something that I did last year, not just two months ago. I did want to get more stories up, at least one about Vancouver - but I also just wanted to write a post that said, "Hey, what's up? Sorry I haven't been around." So, I decided to do the latter first.

My brother's wedding was great. I am happy for him, and I'm happy to have a sister-in-law as nice as the woman he married. Currently, I am staying at his house in Waterloo while he is on his honeymoon. I'll be here until the end of the month. They have two tree frogs that need to be fed crickets every two days, and watered every day...and there are an amazing number of plants that I have to water. I kind of messed up the watering a bit the first week, but hopefully this week I'll get it right.

I also have to mow the lawn. I don't think I have ever mowed a lawn. Hopefully it is as pleasant as vacuuming - in that I won't mind it so much, even though I would prefer not to do it at all. One thing I don't have to do is vacuum. My brother has one of those robot vacuums. It makes a lot of noise at 9am every Wednesday and annoys the crap out of me - but at least that's one day of the week when I don't need to worry about sleeping in.

The picture I choose for this entry is from the Botanic Gardens in Singapore. (And please note that it isn't a typo - they are called the Botanic Gardens, not the Botanical Gardens). So, that's a little glimpse of my trip. I haven't written much about Singapore. In truth, mainly because I didn't really get too much of a feel for it as an entity onto itself. It was, I suppose, a little too much of an international city. I didn't get the same sense of ...being...as I do in other places.  That being said, it was a very pretty city-state, and I certainly enjoyed my time there.

Anyway, that's where I'm at.

Ok! So, I've been reading metas all day...(yes, my brain is fired and I probably need psychological help)...and I've also been chatting with [livejournal.com profile] mizzykitty  about Bobby and John. In the process of chatting, we were talking about our lack of good Bobby icons, and then as I was reading [livejournal.com profile] hearseeno 's meta on triangles, I came across the makings off the perfect Bobby icon!

It is half-way through the meta. It is this picture of Bobby with the words "Bobby Ex Machina".

Seriously, I am in love with this idea. Maybe it is because I am a dork who once studied ancient greek literature, but I do not care - this, or something similar, would make the best Bobby icon EVER.

So...Mara? Anyone? Want to help a dork out here?
