Very similar to Dean’s Scruffy Green Coat, except that this coat has a slightly different cut on the shoulders and snaps – including two on the collar (which is the most recognizable difference between the two coats at first glance.)  It can also be cinched at the waist. This is the same make and model as Dean’s S8 Blue Utility Coat.

APPEARANCES:

The coat first appears in Heartache (8x03), when Dean wears if for the entire episode except for when he is wearing a suit or when he is inside a motel room.

In Citizen Fang (8x09), Dean wears it for the entire episode. The only time he is seen without it on is when he wakes up handcuffed to the radiator. Sam must have removed it before cuffing Dean.

In As Time Goes By (8x12), Dean grabs this coat when he and Sam run out the door to chase down Henry and find him in the Impala. He only takes it off again much later, when they’re discovered who Henry is and are researching Abaddon in the motel room – when he gets in a fight with Henry about John, Dean grabs this coat as he leaves in a huff. Later, when Henry disappears to “fix everything”, Dean wears this coat when he goes to look for him.

In Taxi Driver (8x19), Dean wears this coat for the entire episode, except for when he is cooking Kevin breakfast and Naomi shoes up.

Dean's S8 Blue Utility Coat


In S8, Dean gets a new navy blue utility coat. This one has more decorative elements than his old one. You can see the snaps on the breast and lower pockets. There are decorative “half snaps” on the corners of said pockets as well. The shoulders have a stylized seam across them. It does up with both a zipper and a securing over-flap of snaps to cover the zipper. There are also wrist cuffs that do up with snaps. There is also a built in belt underneath the outer layer of material that can be seen from the back of the jacket and just above the lower pockets at the front, so that it can be synched at the waist. This is the same make and model jacket as Dean’s S8 Green Utility Coat.

APPEARANCES:

In Southern Comfort (8x06), this jacket first appears at the beginning of the episode when Sam and Dean are getting a snack and Dean finds the job. He wears it again in the episode when they go to the graveyard to find and take care of the bones and at the end of the episode when Dean says goodbye to Garth.

In LARP and the Real Girl (8x11), Dean wears this jacket in the car at the beginning of the episode, and then during the scene where they say goodbye to Charlie after the case is wrapped up, and Sam decides that they should stay for the Battle of the Kingdoms.

In The Great Escapist (8x21), we see fake!Dean wearing this jacket. In his second scene, we see fake!Dean put the jacket on when he and fake!Sam are leaving to get Kevin food.

This coat is very similar to Dean’s Blue Military Coat that he got in S2, however, it has snaps, not buttons, and piping detail that travels from the shoulder to the pocket. As well, there’s a visible seam where the lower side-pockets are. It has the shoulder epaulette detail. It can look blue or green, depending on the lighting.

Appearances:

In Trial and Error (8x14), Dean wears this coat as he sets up his bedroom, but not when he’s making/eating burgers with Sam in the next scene. He puts it back on when they travel to visit Kevin and then keeps it on for the rest of the episode.

In The Great Escapist (8x21), Dean wears this coat to Colorado, when he and Sam try to find Metatron. He only takes it off when he has to give Sam an ice bath.

Dean's Silver-Snap Blue Coat


Dean has another new utility coat in S8. This time it’s a blue coat with large silver snaps. The unique thing, besides the silver snaps, is that there are no breast pockets. Instead, the coast just has a weird line of extra flap for no reason and the lower pockets.

APPEARANCES:

This coat first appears in Goodbye Stranger (8x17), when Dean wears it from after they rescue Meg until the end of the episode. He gets a little bit of blood on the collar when Cas is beating him senseless.
