Sam's Loud Blue Plaid

Really, Sam? ANOTHER blue plaid shirt? Can’t you give a girl a break... sigh. This lovely blue plaid is broad and a bit loud. I find it amusing, because the way the white part joins across the chest and the pockets makes it look like someone decided to purposefully connect Sam’s nipples. :P

Appearances:

Sam first wears this shirt in I’m No Angel (9x03), at the end of the episode when everyone is back at the Bunker, and Gadreel asks Dean to send Castiel away again.

Sam's S9 Grey-Blue Plaid

Sam is definitely not cutting me any breaks with all this blue plaid. This plaid is mostly blue and white, with very very fine lines of red, yellow, and bright blue weaving through it. It’s got a double seam up the the middle of the breast pockets. It’s western cut with white snaps.

Appearances:

Sam first wears this shirt in Slumber Party (9x03), at the end of the episode when Sam locks Crowley back up and says goodbye to Dorothy and Charlie.

Sam's Dark Grey and Red Plaid

I like this one. It’s a dark grey and red plaid. The horizontal stripes stand out more than the vertical. The plaid runs diagonally across the pockets and the shoulder. It does up with buttons, not snaps. It appears to be lined in light grey, as you can see when he rolls up the sleeves.

Appearances:

Sam first wears this shirt in the beginning of Dog Dean Afternoon (9x05), when he and Dean are in the bunker. He wears it again later in the episode when he and Dean are researching at the motel after having visited the vegan bakery.

Sam's Mostly White Plaid

This plaid shirt is mostly white with red and blue strips in it. The red and blue are emphasized on the vertical and dimmed on the horizontal. The plaid runs diagonal on the pocket and shoulders, and the whole thing has white snaps, not buttons.

Appearances:

Sam first wears this shirt in Heaven Can’t Wait (9x06), at the beginning of the episode when they’re researching in the Bunker and Dean gets the call from Cas and takes off.

In Inside Man (10x17), Sam doesn’t wear this shirt, but we see it hanging up in his room as he reads Bobby’s letter at the end of the episode.

Sam's S9 Dark Blue Plaid

Oh my god, Sam. CUT IT OUT WITH THE BLUE PLAIDS. Pick one or two blue plaid shirts and stick with those – the vastness of your wardrobe has begun to hurt my soul. OKAY. So, this blue plaid is a very sedated blue and grey/green plaid. It does up with buttons and the plaid runs diagonal across the pockets and shoulders. It’s actually quite nice.

Appearances:

In Rock and a Hard Place (9x08), Sam is wearing this shirt when the episode opens and he has fallen asleep next to his breakfast cereal.

Sam's Dark Smudged Plaid

This shirt is a dark bluish purplish grey plaid. The plaid, however, is very subtle, broad and the dye has a smudged like quality. It’s not so much about stripes as it is about different variations of colour gradation. The  shirt has a western cut to the shoulders, does up with light-coloured snaps, and has an interesting center seam detail on the front pockets.

Appearances:

In First Born (9x11), Sam wears this shirt for the entire episode, except when he is undergoing the procedure to remove Gadreel’s grace, at which point he strips down to a single-layer of a black t-shirt.

Sam's S9 Blue Plaid with White Snaps

This shirt is very similar to Sam’s S7 Darker Blue Plaid, except that the plaid pattern is just a little different and it does up with white snaps instead of buttons.

Appearances:

In Sharp Teeth (9x12), Sam wears this shirt at the end of the episode when saying goodbye to Garth and then having a talk with Dean.

Sam's Very Bright Yellow and Blue Plaid

Oh wow, do I ever think this shirt is hideous – but it is certainly eye-catching. This shirt is very bright yellow and light blue plaid. The blue stripes in groups of four lines against the bright yellow background. There are no flaps on the breast pockets and the shirt and pockets do up with white buttons.

Appearances:

In The Purge (9x13), Sam wears this shirt when he and Dean are interviewed for the trainer position at Canyon Valley Wellness Spa.

Sam's Pastel Plaid

These aren’t really pastels, but the colours are muted and more understated than Sam usually wears. Also, I am running out of descriptive names for plaid shirts. This shirt does up with white buttons and has little buttons for the collar too.

Appearances:

In Blade Runners (9x16), Sam wears this shirt when he is researching where the First Blade might be based on what Crowley discovered before he went on his human blood bender.

Sam's Chicago Blue (Plaid) Shirt

This shirt looks to be one that the wardrobe department has dyed dark blue/violet, but that used to be a very light subtle plaid. You can still see the faint striping in the collar and on the pocket. I know the wardrobe department dyes plaid shirts dark blue, because as I type this I am currently wearing one such shirt that I bought at a SPN wardrobe sale at the studio. Much like Sam’s other shirts, this one also does up with snaps, in this case, the snaps are white (another clue that this was possibly once a much lighter coloured shirt.)

Appearances:

Sam wears this shirt for the entire episode of Bloodlines (9x20).
